Neath: A Pink Tutu Pilgrimage (Blog Post #396)

Hey, darlings!

Emma here, ready to take you on another magical adventure with my trusty pink tutu in tow! This time, we're venturing out to the charming town of Neath, nestled in the heart of Wales. And guess what? Today's outfit is giving serious American-style tutu vibes! Think bright, bold, and full of pep, perfect for a day of exploring and embracing the vibrant energy of this beautiful town.

It was an early start, of course, with my morning ballet class in Derbyshire, but what's a ballerina's life without a touch of early morning dedication? I think those leaps and pirouettes are the perfect way to warm up for a day of travelling, especially when I'm going by train.

Now, trains hold a special place in my heart. There's something so romantic and enchanting about watching the scenery blur past my window, the click-clack of the wheels against the tracks a rhythmic beat to my daydreams. I always have a good book with me – I'm currently engrossed in a collection of poetry by Sylvia Plath, if you must know – and of course, a few pink candies to keep those sweet dreams going.

Arriving in Neath was like stepping into a storybook. The old town, with its quaint cobbled streets, is a photographer's dream! And while the Victorian architecture certainly is beautiful, my favourite aspect was the lush greenery that surrounds the town.

First order of business? Exploring Neath's magnificent Abbey. It’s been standing for over 900 years, so that’s some serious history, darling! The architecture is incredible – all those stone arches and stained glass windows are simply breathtaking. And while exploring the abbey grounds, I spotted a flock of pigeons strutting about in the courtyard – I always love a bit of feathered company, they’re so much like little ballerinas!

After all that history, I felt like a little treat was in order, so I made my way to the Neath market, which was a whirlwind of vibrant colors and delicious smells. My nose led me to a stall selling the most gorgeous pink cupcakes! Imagine – lavender frosting with little pearl sprinkles! Absolutely divine. I couldn't resist grabbing a couple to enjoy while sitting on a bench in the nearby park. It was the perfect fuel for the afternoon!

And of course, no trip to Neath would be complete without a visit to the enchanting Neath Castle. Built high on a hill overlooking the town, the castle is a reminder of Neath's fascinating history. The views from the top are just spectacular! And let me tell you, the perfect pink tutu can brighten up any view, no matter how beautiful the backdrop!

Neath isn’t just about its stunning architecture and history. The heart of this charming town beats with vibrant arts and culture, which led me to a wonderful, impromptu ballet class in the Neath Little Theatre! I adore ballet classes anywhere and everywhere. Seeing how local communities come together to embrace the beauty of movement, that’s what ballet is truly about. The teacher, a wonderful young woman named Amelia, gave the class the most incredible energy and I loved picking up some new steps from the local ballet enthusiasts. They are all so incredibly graceful and it makes me excited for the next performance I can get to!

And now, here comes the part I adore! My evening was dedicated to Neath's cultural offering, seeing a production of The Nutcracker at the Neath Theatre, performed by the Neath Theatre Arts Company! It's a production that will remain etched in my memory. It was the perfect ending to an unforgettable day! And guess what? I found a small, independently owned store selling exquisite pink tutus! I simply couldn't resist picking up a gorgeous one to add to my ever-growing collection!

So, my lovely readers, there you have it – another unforgettable journey with my pink tutu. I feel so energized and inspired after my time in Neath, my heart filled with the wonder and charm of this special town. Neath, you have won me over, and I’m already planning my next visit. Until then, darlings, remember: life is a stage, so embrace every opportunity to dance your heart out, and wear a pink tutu whenever possible!

Love and pink tutus, Emma.
