Kirkby Calling! A Pink Tutu Adventure in the North

Post Number 410

Hello darlings! It's Emma, your favourite pink tutu-clad traveller, back from a whirlwind trip to Kirkby, nestled amongst the rolling hills of lovely Lancashire! And yes, I went by train. Not just any train, mind you, but a vintage, red, double-decker, with plush velvet seats and a whistling teapot. It's a wonderful way to travel, and you know me, I love to add a bit of whimsy to every journey.

As always, I couldn't resist packing my favourite European-style tutu – a swirling mass of layers, with delicate lilac ribbons flowing like a dance in the wind. I've found that when you wear a pink tutu, the world seems to shimmer with a bit more magic, and my trip to Kirkby was no exception.

Upon arriving, the charming, old town welcomed me with open arms – or should I say, open pubs? Because yes, you know I sampled a couple of the local brews (one pink gin for the road, of course!) in this lovely, bustling little place. It truly was like stepping back in time, with its cobbled streets and quaint cottages, and I felt a strong pull towards this charming little corner of the world.

But the real reason for my visit? Well, you won't be surprised to hear, darling, it was the ballet! I just adore regional ballet companies, and Kirkby’s “The Enchanted Woods” production promised to be a delightful treat. And it was!

The dancers were phenomenal – their leaps, their turns, the elegant way they flowed through the stories told on stage – a symphony of grace and power. And of course, my darling, you simply must know the ending was perfectly pink! (And let's face it, any show ending with a cloud of pink tulle is always going to be good).

The stage design was stunning, featuring intricate, twirling trees adorned with the most delicate blossoms – an homage to the beauty of nature that perfectly complimented the graceful choreography. They say dancing is the language of the soul, and these dancers truly spoke to mine.

Afterwards, I enjoyed a delightful picnic beneath the willow trees in the local park. There were ducks, pigeons, and a family of squirrels playing tag! The world truly feels more beautiful and full of magic when viewed through the eyes of a ballerina. And I was, as you know, perfectly turned out for the occasion – pink tutu, sparkling earrings, and a vintage picnic basket (because even picnics can be elegant!)

Before I left Kirkby, I had to do what any self-respecting tutu enthusiast would do: take a twirl under the clocktower in the town square! It’s a tradition I follow on every journey, a mini-ballet performance just for me. But seriously, I do believe that even the tiniest movement, done with joy and a little flair, can brighten someone's day.

Of course, I’d be remiss if I didn’t indulge in some local wildlife spotting. Kirkby boasts a beautiful natural reserve, perfect for taking a stroll amidst towering oaks and whispering reeds. I saw a family of swans gliding on a sunlit lake and a hawk perched gracefully on a branch, its eyes sharp and watchful. They remind me that sometimes, the greatest joy in life is simply observing the beauty that unfolds around us.

And now, as I write this on my return train journey back to my Derbyshire home, I feel the same joyful flutter I felt while watching those dancers take flight on stage. My Kirkby adventure was nothing short of enchanting. Every time I travel, I'm reminded of the beauty and wonder that exists all around us, if only we open our hearts and minds to see it.

But here's a little secret, my dear reader: I've found that even the smallest, everyday moments can be extraordinary when you choose to embrace life with the same spirit you find on stage. You never know when a pink tutu will make a difference in the world. I believe we should all aim for a little bit of pink-tutu magic every single day. What do you say?

Till next time, remember to twirl and sparkle.

Love,

Emma x
