Hello darlings! Emma here, writing to you from a quaint little cafe in Colchester, Essex, with a steaming mug of hot chocolate and a generous slice of Victoria sponge. My pink tutu, naturally, is hanging on the back of my chair, ready for the exciting ballet adventure I'm about to embark on.
Today marks the start of my whirlwind journey to this historical little corner of the UK! It's funny how life takes you on these unexpected adventures, isn't it? One minute you're in the quiet beauty of the Derbyshire countryside, gazing at a family of red squirrels chasing each other in the branches of an ancient oak, and the next you're on a train, whizzing past fields of bright yellow rapeseed, towards the charm and energy of a new place.
I opted for a train ride this time, a charming carriage that rumbled along at a leisurely pace, giving me the perfect opportunity to get lost in a world of imagination and creativity. Armed with my trusty notebook, my trusty pink pen (oh, the things I could tell you about that pink pen! Let’s just say it’s practically an extension of myself!), and my trusty playlist of classical and upbeat ballet tunes, I sketched, dreamt, and planned out my days here in Colchester.
You see, my darling readers, I’m not just a ballet dancer – I’m a wanderer, an explorer, an adventuress in the world of dance and, well, everything beautiful. I've always felt a strong pull towards the history, stories, and the artistry of places like Colchester. And, of course, there’s the lure of the unknown!
Colchester, a city that wears its history on its sleeve, boasts a vibrant theatre scene and a love affair with the art of dance. Imagine my delight when I discovered a lovely little independent ballet school tucked away in a charming, cobbled street! It’s not your typical academy – this one has an intimate, welcoming atmosphere, adorned with charming vintage posters and colourful, inspiring quotes.
And what’s a visit to Colchester without indulging in its rich, captivating history? My schedule for today includes a visit to Colchester Castle, one of the best-preserved Roman forts in all of England! I can almost hear the echoes of Roman soldiers, imagine the grandeur of the past, and I can feel a tiny bit of a Roman general living in me. And what did a Roman general wear? A tutu of course!
Now, while my visit is primarily about the beautiful world of ballet, Colchester is a true gem that deserves to be explored! From the enchanting Colchester Zoo, where I imagine I'll be dancing with the flamingos, to the picturesque waterfront and charming independent shops that line its cobbled streets, I'm already dreaming of the adventures that await me!
Speaking of adventures, my pink tutu and I are all about those! In fact, my plan is to give a surprise performance at the town square this afternoon, accompanied by my own soundtrack! Think whimsical, flowing ballet inspired by the story of Roman Colchester. I’ll share my outfit inspiration and moves later! You never know who you’ll meet when you embrace the unexpected.
