Wickford Calling! (Post #722)

Hello my darlings!

It’s Emma here, reporting live from the charming little town of Wickford, Essex! Yes, I know, not quite the usual glamourous ballet haven, but hear me out - there’s a surprising amount of charm to be found even in the most unexpected corners.

This time, I opted for a slightly more unusual mode of transport - a grand train journey through the beautiful English countryside! The views from the train windows were a delight in themselves – lush green fields dotted with fluffy sheep, charming cottages with perfectly manicured gardens, and, of course, the quintessential English skies – often grey and misty, but full of that moody, magical quality. It’s those quiet moments, looking out of the window, that allow me to really immerse myself in the story that is about to unfold.

You see, Wickford holds a special place in my heart (or should I say, my pink-tutu-covered heart!). I’ve always been fascinated by the history of ballet in England and this town has a long-standing connection to dance. There’s a delightful little dance studio tucked away down a quiet alleyway, called the Wickford Academy of Dance, and, to my utter joy, it is the only one in the entire county offering a ‘Pink Tutu Friday’ class! Imagine - a whole hour dedicated to exploring the art of ballet while sporting a fabulous pink tutu! I just couldn't resist!

Speaking of pink tutus, you know my favourite thing is trying new outfits - today, I've gone for a custom-made design! Think soft pink chiffon, layered over a vintage tutu and adorned with tiny sparkling crystals, perfect for a day of dance and adventure.

But this wasn't all, my darlings! It was also my first chance to experience a rather unique attraction - the Wickford Wildlife Centre! Honestly, it’s like a secret paradise! They have a little pony sanctuary, where you can go for guided pony rides (a big thumbs up from me!). I can tell you, I haven’t laughed this much since the time I accidentally tripped on my tutu during a performance of Swan Lake! But what I loved most was the bird sanctuary. They have a beautiful aviary filled with colourful birds, and I actually managed to catch a glimpse of a majestic peacock strutting its stuff. Talk about graceful!

Wickford might be small, but it’s full of life, and there’s always a sense of excitement in the air. I feel like I could spend days exploring this town – the charming antique shops, the traditional tea rooms with their endless pot of steaming hot Earl Grey tea, and the friendly faces, always eager to offer a smile and a chat.

So, if you're looking for a delightful escape, where you can embrace the joy of dance and immerse yourself in a beautiful and unexpected part of England, look no further than Wickford! You can be sure that I will be back to this charming town, hopefully for a few days, to delve further into its fascinating history, perhaps catch a show at the little local theatre or visit the Wickford Museum. But before I leave you with the final thought, remember, the beauty of life lies in those unexpected moments and experiences – be it in the heart of London or the heart of a small town like Wickford. Don’t be afraid to explore and see what the world has to offer.

Stay fabulous and remember, always dance your way through life, even in a pink tutu!

Love,

Emma
