Didcot Delights: A Tutu-ful Trip to Oxfordshire

#TutuBlog - Post 727

Hello darlings!

It’s your favourite Derbyshire lass, Emma, and today I’m waltzing back to you from the beautiful town of Didcot in Oxfordshire. This little gem is a complete hidden treasure, tucked away amidst rolling green hills and picturesque countryside – a perfect setting for a Tutu-ful adventure!

Now, you all know my love affair with pink runs deep, and my Didcot wardrobe was certainly no exception. Picture this: a pristine white ballet top, a flowing pale pink tutu with layers of shimmery tulle that could make even a cloud blush, and my trusty black ballet pumps that have danced their way through countless adventures. A pink-tinted silk scarf tied with a bow, completing the picture perfectly. A pink tutu wouldn't look out of place on the Didcot railway platform, a surprisingly popular location for impromptu photo shoots.

It was actually the allure of Didcot's historic railway station that drew me here, you see. As an avid train enthusiast, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to wander through the bustling platform and imagine the steam trains of yesteryear, their whistles echoing across the station, transporting passengers to far-off destinations. It truly is a step back in time and it’s easy to see why Didcot’s railway heritage attracts enthusiasts from all over the world. I mean, you can’t find a place with as much charm for capturing Instagram-worthy photos in a tutu anywhere else!

Now, I couldn't embark on a trip to Didcot without paying a visit to the Didcot Railway Centre. Honestly, if you love history, engineering or simply admire the beautiful artistry of locomotives, then this place is a must-visit. It's a haven for train spotters and railway enthusiasts of all ages, a living museum celebrating the glory days of the railways. The station was just bursting with stories, every train, engine and carriage radiating its own distinct charm.

And while I'm on the subject of charm, the little town of Didcot itself has this unique, cosy feeling that just invites you to linger a while. Its friendly pubs and restaurants exude that classic English pub charm – perfect for indulging in a comforting cup of tea or a hearty, home-cooked meal after a day exploring the station and its surroundings. Didcot, you may not have the glitter of the city, but you certainly have heart and that is what makes you so special.

And, of course, no trip to Oxfordshire would be complete without exploring the stunning natural beauty of the Cotswolds. With its rolling hills, charming villages, and idyllic countryside, the Cotswolds truly are a sight to behold. Didcot is just a short journey away from this picturesque landscape, perfect for a relaxing countryside stroll or an invigorating horseback ride, something I fully intend to do next time I'm here.

Oh, and the wildlife here is just captivating! I spotted the most delightful little hedgehog on my walk this morning – its little pink nose poking out from beneath a hedge, adorable! I believe they even have a ‘wildlife park’ here at Didcot. Who doesn’t love a day spotting fluffy bunnies and inquisitive squirrels? It’s all so idyllic. I am seriously considering setting up my ‘Pink Tutu' ballet class on the meadows here!

Now, before you ask, I don't have any plans for a big performance this time round. My Didcot performance is the slow, contemplative waltz around the railway centre. It’s a lovely change from the rush of a city performance and the pace here allows me to really appreciate the history and character of Didcot’s heritage, as well as the natural beauty of the area. Honestly, there’s nothing more satisfying than dancing amidst such tranquility, embracing the rhythm of nature while gliding through the beautiful streets in a swirling, soft pink tutu.

Didcot has been a welcome breath of fresh air, a beautiful break from the bustle of everyday life. It's one of those places where you can simply breathe in the tranquility and allow yourself to be swept away by its simple, honest beauty. Didcot may not be on everyone’s ‘must see’ list, but I encourage you to venture outside of your comfort zone, to find your own little corner of tranquility in the world, maybe even somewhere as unassuming as a quaint town like Didcot. Who knows what hidden gems you might uncover?

So, until my next tutu-tastic adventure, stay fabulous darlings, and remember, life's a dance - embrace the spin!

Love, Emma xx
