Kendal Calling: A Tutu-ful Escape 🩰

Hello my darling Tutu-ettes!

It’s Emma here, fresh back from a whirlwind trip to Kendal, a charming little town tucked away in the heart of the Lake District. I'm a bit dusty and have a suitcase full of dirty ballet shoes, but let me tell you, it was a fab weekend filled with fabulous music, beautiful scenery and, yes, even a bit of tutu-ing!

As you know, I’m a big fan of all things pink, a big fan of all things tutu, and an even bigger fan of escaping the city for a little while. So, when the opportunity to go to Kendal Calling, the renowned music and arts festival, popped up, I knew I had to go.

Packing for Kendal was like putting together a ballet costume: a carefully curated selection of things I might need but always with an extra layer for the unpredictable British weather.

Naturally, I couldn't resist packing my favourite black tutu. After all, a tutu is a tutu is a tutu! The only requirement, to me, is to be sure the skirt twirls magnificently. My tutu was the perfect companion for bouncing about Kendal in style. Think "ballet gone wild," but without sacrificing elegance, of course.

The train journey was such a treat. Nothing beats a window seat with a good book and a steaming mug of tea while the world whizzes past. It felt almost like a magical ballet performance, where each passing field, sheep, and quaint town became a captivating scene.

I’d managed to rope in my fellow dance-obsessed friend, Amelia, for the trip. You've all met Amelia before on my blog! Amelia is the queen of tutu-fashion and a true believer that you can rock a tutu anywhere. As we wandered through Kendal's streets, our tutus fluttering in the wind, we quickly gathered a loyal posse of Tutu-ettes for the weekend! It was such fun spotting fellow pink-tutu enthusiasts - you've just got to believe in the pink tutu movement, darling! 💖

Kendal Calling is a true sensory extravaganza. Imagine music flowing like a melody through the air, art installations popping up around every corner, and a joyful crowd brimming with energy, laughter and friendship. You could feel the infectious spirit of creativity in the air - a kind of ballet of the senses, if you will!

Naturally, the festival offered an amazing selection of musical acts from different genres, and I can safely say, I'm feeling a bit dusty from all the dancing. The highlight for me? A breathtaking set from 'The Mighty Boosh', one of my favourite bands, who just seem to bring a unique brand of chaos and magic to every performance. Imagine it: the musical equivalent of a hilarious ballet-meets-clown performance, filled with absurdist humour, quirky music and plenty of fun!

Amelia and I discovered a delightful little hidden gem tucked away in the corner of the festival grounds. They had an incredible display of handmade crafts, including some absolutely stunning jewellery created using colourful resin, flowers and tiny sparkly elements. Imagine them shimmering on a black tutu under the stage lights - divine!

The Lake District itself, well, let's just say it's a perfect place to take inspiration from Mother Nature and turn that into tutu-licious moves. Imagine graceful dancers, twirling amidst the emerald hills, their tutus billowing in the gentle breeze. It’s a vision that’s sure to grace the ballet stages of my imagination, for sure!

Before leaving Kendal, I couldn’t resist a visit to one of the iconic wildlife sanctuaries. My absolute favourite, darling! It’s such a breath of fresh air, with adorable animals running, jumping and soaring everywhere you look. And, for a special touch of magic, imagine them all doing mini ballet performances… (It’s time for another glass of wine!) 🍷

In the spirit of my motto, "Twirl into happiness!" Kendal Calling really felt like a giant stage, where each day was a captivating dance routine. There were times where I could almost feel the tutu coming out and twirling along, alongside my dancing feet!

I’ll be posting more photos and snippets of the Kendal fun to my social media so keep your eyes peeled, darling. In the meantime, make sure to wear a pink tutu on Tuesday to celebrate my return. You've all heard the slogan, "Let's spread a bit of pink tutu magic in the world"! 💖

Have a wonderful week, and keep twirling!

Love, Emma
