Leith: A Whirlwind of Pink and Tutus (Post 915)

Hey lovelies! It's Emma here, back from a whirlwind adventure in the charming city of Leith.

It all started with a pink train journey. Yes, you read that right - pink! I swear, it wasn't some technicoloured dream, though I wouldn't mind living in one. The train was actually decorated with a giant pink tutu, part of a festival celebrating dance and creativity. Honestly, you couldn't ask for a better welcome to Leith!

As soon as I stepped off the train, I knew I was going to love it here. The salty air of the coast, the cobblestone streets, and the vibrant street art โ€“ it felt like stepping into a picture book. My first mission? Find the perfect pink outfit to explore the city in, of course. And let me tell you, Leith's shops are full of vintage gems! I found a dazzling silk scarf, and my trusty black tutu โ€“ my travel essential! A girl's gotta be comfortable, even when exploring new places.

First stop was the Leith Theatre, an impressive Victorian beauty that's currently undergoing restoration. I wandered around the building, picturing it bursting with life during the golden age of ballet. It got me dreaming of the magical world of stage lights and grand entrances.

Later, I met up with a friend for afternoon tea. The cafรฉ was full of local creatives, and we chatted about all things ballet - the Royal Ballet's upcoming performance of Swan Lake, the newest street ballet company popping up in Edinburgh, the importance of supporting young dancers... honestly, the passion just flows.

And then, there was the highlight of the day: a beautiful, private ballet class nestled within a charming little courtyard. The studio itself was light and airy, filled with the gentle music of a pianist and the soft rustle of dancers' skirts. It felt like being in a little haven of grace and elegance. And you know me, I can never resist a new ballet class.

That evening, we strolled by the harbor, watching the sunset paint the sky with glorious pink and orange hues. It reminded me of the beauty and fluidity of ballet โ€“ just as powerful, but much more ethereal.

The city itself felt incredibly peaceful and magical. A stroll through Leith's botanical gardens offered a respite from the city hustle. I was completely charmed by the beautiful flowers and, to my delight, a family of playful otters. They reminded me of dancers, dipping and diving gracefully through the water, so charming and agile! I have to admit, I took quite a few photos of them for Instagram, because it would have been a travesty not to share their beauty with the world.

On the final day, we watched a magnificent performance at the Royal Lyceum Theatre. A ballet telling the story of a daring, fierce warrior, the ballet combined the grace of classical ballet with the strength and dynamic movement of contemporary dance. There was so much drama, passion, and power on stage. I felt myself transported to a different world โ€“ an entirely pink and glittery one!

Leaving Leith was bittersweet. I was sad to say goodbye to its charm, its energy, and its dance-filled atmosphere. But Iโ€™m already looking forward to my next adventure!

So, there you have it, my little trip to Leith! Itโ€™s an unforgettable experience that reminded me why I love traveling and discovering new cultures, especially if they involve some good ballet!

Remember, the world needs more pink tutus and a whole lot more people dancing their hearts out. Donโ€™t be afraid to twirl, lovelies.

Stay fabulous,

Emma xx
