Kirkby: Tutu-ing Around the North! (Post #926)

Hello darlings!

Well, I just had to share my Kirkby adventure with you all, especially as this was my first time exploring this charming little town. Let’s be honest, it was the opportunity to wear my new, breathtakingly European tutu that sealed the deal. I'm talking tiers upon tiers of the most delicate pink tulle, each one just whispering 'whimsy' and 'enchanting'. It's the kind of tutu that could stop traffic (not that I'd advise attempting that on the A52!).

I’ve got to say, the train journey from Derbyshire was pure magic. I swear, I was practically humming a waltz to myself as we snaked through the countryside. All I needed was a dashing suitor to lean across the compartment and compliment me on my sartorial choices (a girl can dream, can't she?!). Maybe one day, darling, maybe one day.

Anyway, the Kirkby Station itself was lovely. The old red brick buildings and intricate ironwork gave it such a beautiful, historical feel. I'm definitely someone who appreciates architecture with a dash of history. Just ask me about the new dance studio, I swear it's built with actual fairy dust! 😉

Let's talk Kirkby

As soon as I stepped into Kirkby town center, I knew I had found somewhere special. There was this wonderful old Victorian shop that caught my eye. It was a complete vintage wonderland of clothing and bric-a-brac. I had to drag myself away from that treasure trove eventually, but only after I'd unearthed a little box of adorable handmade miniature porcelain ballet slippers. Perfect for my ever-growing collection, don’t you think?

The best part about Kirkby has to be the amazing Ashfield Park. Just the place to unleash your inner wild child! Think manicured gardens, sweeping lawns perfect for impromptu ballet moves, and even a delightful pond where the ducks looked utterly enchanted by my flamboyant twirling. Don't get me wrong, I was extremely careful not to disrupt their usual routine. But when the call of the tutu takes you, the call of the tutu takes you!

Speaking of impromptu ballet, I decided to make a quick detour to Kirkby’s lovely little dance school. It was small but incredibly charming, with a big airy studio and walls covered in ballerina posters. They were even holding a beginners’ class! Just imagine: Me, leading the next generation of twirling geniuses. Cue dramatic swooning I’m definitely going to sign up for a few sessions!

Tutu Thoughts

For a little slice of girly paradise, it’s definitely worth visiting Kirkby Market – where everything smells of delicious homemade cakes. There's also a bakery nearby, bursting with fragrant breads, and they even have a special, tutu-inspired bun! 🎀 (Don’t worry, they keep some in pink. Obviously). There's a small shop that makes exquisite flower crowns, too. Oh darling, they're perfect for picnics and adding a touch of magic to your own tutus. Just a little tip for you: never say no to flower crowns!

After a delightful picnic, we found this amazing old Victorian theater. I have to tell you, darlings, it just exuded history. The beautiful mahogany and crimson velvet seats, the glimmering chandeliers, the stage lights waiting for the magic to begin. This place would definitely be on my 'To See A Ballet Performance' list. Who wouldn't want to feel like a princess in a Victorian theater, swirling and pirouetting, surrounded by the beautiful aroma of aged oak and anticipation?

I know this post is getting rather long, so I'll finish it here! But I promise to tell you more about Kirkby next time, darling! From the incredible community spirit to the most delightful, charming and welcoming local shops, Kirkby is a must-visit if you're looking for a fun day out, particularly if you're planning to sport a tutu (maybe even pink, perhaps!)

Love,

Emma 💕
