Consett Calling! (Blog Post #1020)

Hello my lovely Tutu-lovers! Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing, ballet-obsessed, Derbyshire girl, back with another adventure!

This time, I've travelled all the way up north, to the lovely town of Consett, nestled amidst the hills and valleys of County Durham. I know, you might be thinking, "Emma, Consett? Really?" But trust me, this place is brimming with hidden gems, just waiting to be discovered. And no, I didn't ride my trusty steed there (though, let's face it, who wouldn't want a horse to gallop across the English countryside?!). This time, I opted for a glorious journey by train, window seat and all, letting the rolling green hills whiz by like a ballet of their own.

Now, I'll admit, when I arrived in Consett, it wasn't exactly the "pink paradise" my heart yearns for (though I'm pretty sure I spotted a fuchsia door here and there!). However, this town, nestled amongst those majestic hills, has a real charm. You know that kind of magic that makes you feel like you've been transported back in time? With its traditional red brick houses and cobbled streets, Consett has a certain nostalgic air about it, like a scene from a vintage movie.

Of course, being Emma, I couldn't visit a new place without a little ballet inspiration. I stumbled upon a delightful little dance studio nestled away in a quiet corner of town. The owner, a kind woman named Fiona, gave me a warm welcome and let me have a little peek inside. I could almost feel the energy emanating from the dance floor! The sunlight was pouring through the large windows, illuminating a kaleidoscope of colour - vibrant leotards and sparkling shoes, and even a little bit of my favourite pink, of course.

I knew I just had to step into that studio. So, off came the sensible shoes and on went my trusty pink ballet flats! (I even found the perfect spot to perch my fluffy, pink ballerina bag!). With Fiona's blessing, I got to have a go at a couple of classes, enjoying the beautiful movement and the feel of being part of a group again. These dancers were so welcoming, they made me feel right at home. You wouldn't believe it, but I even spotted a lovely old ballerina, all dolled up in a tutu that made me swoon.

Consett, however, is not just about graceful pirouettes and pliés. I also managed to indulge my wildlife side. Taking a leisurely stroll through the local park, I was amazed by the sheer variety of birds that inhabit this tranquil spot. I even spotted a squirrel who, in my opinion, should definitely wear a pink tutu - they could be the ultimate ambassador for my favourite colour! And let's not forget about the magnificent Consett skyline, with its dramatic hills, and the ancient stone walls. Every turn seemed to reveal a fresh, vibrant sight.

Before leaving Consett, I had to sample some local treats. Let's just say I'm now officially a fan of Durham’s “Spotted Dick” – don't be fooled by the name, it's actually a very delicious steamed suet pudding with sultanas and candied peel! It was a perfect end to a perfect day.

This whole trip was like a story book chapter. I left Consett with my heart full, and with the most important message - to spread the joy of dance and colour everywhere we go. I encourage everyone, no matter where you are, to find your own “Consett.” That special place, with hidden gems and stories waiting to be unearthed, where even the most unlikely spot can be an inspiring oasis for the soul.

Remember, friends, every day is a new ballet performance! Keep those tutus flowing, spread that pink joy, and let’s all dance our hearts out! Until next time…

Your devoted Emma.
