Edmonton, My Darling: Where Prairie Meets Pink Tutu! (Post #1103)

Hello lovelies!

It’s Emma here, back from another whirlwind adventure. This time, the gorgeous Canadian prairie city of Edmonton, Alberta welcomed me with open arms – and even more open skies! I landed in the city at a most respectable time (thank heavens for train journeys!), giving me time to catch a breath and change into
you guessed it! My latest pink tutu creation. A classic, with a little something special - a bright, poppy red sash! Edmonton may be all prairie, but I’m bringing the urban style and sass!

Speaking of style, Edmonton really took my breath away with its chic vibes. While I was exploring the city, I bumped into a darling vintage clothing boutique with the most gorgeous tulle fabrics and an amazing selection of colourful leotards (all for bargain prices! My inner ballet fanatic screamed!). Of course, I had to pick up some materials to make a few new tutu additions – gotta keep the creative juices flowing!

But my visit to Edmonton wasn’t just about the shops and the city’s undeniable charm. I had a major dance moment in store. This city is a hub for dance and performing arts. Imagine this - an entire festival dedicated to the performing arts, complete with street performances, theatre shows, and the most spectacular ballet productions! I nearly fainted when I saw the programme – they even had a world premiere of an original ballet based on Shakespeare’s ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’. That's what I call my cup of tea!

It wasn’t just a feast for the eyes though. The festival had everything from contemporary ballet to tap dancing and flamenco – it really was the ultimate dance-lovers playground. And, of course, I couldn’t resist getting into the spirit of it all – a few twirls here, some pliĂ©s there. And let’s not forget the highlight: the amazing ballet performance itself. The dancers were incredibly graceful and their passion for the artform was evident. I was mesmerized! The stage itself was adorned with the most beautiful backdrops, each representing the vibrant colours and scenery of Canada. My inner ballerina cried a little with joy - pure magic!

The beauty of this trip? I took some truly remarkable ballet lessons in a beautifully bright and sunny studio overlooking the cityscape. Can you even imagine the inspiration! I even found a local teacher who had trained in Paris, just like me - talk about kindred spirits! I learned a few new tricks, which will undoubtedly be making an appearance in my future performance plans. After all, nothing says “Emma is back” better than a whole new dance routine!

While ballet was front and centre in my Edmonton adventure, this city was a paradise for the wildlife enthusiast as well.

Remember my new “Wild Wednesdays” segment? It all began with an early morning horse-drawn carriage ride through Elk Island National Park! You haven’t truly lived until you’ve been surrounded by majestic bison, graceful elk, and the breathtaking sight of a sunrise over the Canadian prairies. Picture this: the smell of dew, the chirping of birds, and the sound of horse hooves clicking on the ground as you gently trot through a nature reserve. I don’t know what was more impressive: the wildlife or my gorgeous pink tutu billowing in the breeze as I embraced the beautiful scenery. (Did I mention I was sporting a brand new feathered headband?)

But the best part about Edmonton was the people. Their genuine warmth and friendliness reminded me of the charm of my little hometown of Derbyshire, back in the UK. From the barista at the cafe who remembered my latte order (extra froth, please!), to the sweet lady who offered me directions in her beautiful, accented English – I felt like a part of the city’s tapestry within minutes. And speaking of friendly locals – remember my “Embrace The Tutu Challenge?” It's slowly taking over Edmonton - from coffee shop baristas to waitresses and even a charming local dance instructor. We all wore matching pink tutus in a group photograph. It was absolute madness and fun all at the same time.

Now, I have to be honest. The challenge to get everyone wearing pink tutus isn’t going smoothly everywhere I go, but Edmonton was an exception! Perhaps they just appreciate a little bit of girly flair. I like to think I've already convinced a few locals to at least try ballet - let’s be honest, a bit of twirling never hurt anyone! I even brought back some souvenir tutus for a few lucky followers – hopefully, my 'Pink-Tutu.com' blog posts are getting the word out!

This has been one of my most amazing trips so far! From ballet bliss to prairie paradise and meeting some truly amazing people, I have made the most of my visit to this enchanting Canadian city. I’ve picked up some incredible new moves, had some hilarious adventures (one involves a giant prairie dog, and you’ll have to read about it in a later blog!), and I think I may have started a new fashion trend - Pink Tutu Prairie Chic!

And speaking of fashion, let's not forget the iconic outfits I wore in Edmonton. The classic ballerina outfit of leotard and pink tutu always reigns supreme. It's always easy and always gorgeous. The ballet studios I visited had a vibrant selection, and trust me, I didn’t just pick one. (Because one just isn’t enough, right?). A vintage pink velvet beret and pink platform shoes were a must-have when strolling the chic city streets! It just adds that touch of ballerina drama and elegance!

One thing is certain, you haven't lived until you've taken a horse-drawn carriage ride through a Canadian prairie with a bright pink tutu. Now, Edmonton has captured a special place in my heart – and it all has to do with the vibrant, colourful world of dance! You can catch me in the city again very soon. This time I plan to embrace the magic of 'Winterlude' and share all my tips for exploring the stunning winter scenery of Edmonton.

Until next time, dear lovelies! Remember, you're beautiful, talented, and you deserve to embrace all your dreams! Keep twirling, keep exploring, and keep sharing your magic with the world!

Lots of love,

Emma x
