Pont-y-pool and My Orange Tutu - TutuBlog #1263 🩰

Hello darlings!

It’s Emma here, back from a whirlwind adventure in the land of Welsh valleys! I’ve been feeling a bit adventurous lately, so I ditched my usual pink tutu for something a bit bolder: a glorious orange tutu! Yes, you heard me right, a tangerine dream spun into tulle. It’s a little bit retro, a little bit playful, and a whole lot of fabulous. 😉

This week’s escapade began with a delightful journey aboard a charming vintage steam train from my Derbyshire home. I always find something magical about travelling this way, the rhythmic chugging and the puff of smoke trailing behind you just transports you back in time. I had a window seat, naturally, perfect for people watching and soaking up the changing scenery as we made our way towards the charming town of Pont-y-pool.

Pont-y-pool itself is a hidden gem of a place, tucked away in the valley with its rolling green hills and whispering trees. It was surprisingly lively too, filled with cobbled streets lined with cute little shops and cafes, buzzing with friendly locals. The best thing? I found the most amazing little antique shop, filled with dusty treasures and whimsical vintage clothes, and you guessed it – a gorgeous orange tutu tucked away in a corner! It was fate, really.

I decided to make the most of this gorgeous weather and visit the local nature reserve, a sprawling haven of meadows and woods. I swear I saw a couple of deer flitting between the trees, just like something straight out of a ballet. My imagination truly runs wild when I’m surrounded by nature.

The real highlight of my Pont-y-pool escapade, however, was a performance at the local theatre. Now, Pont-y-pool may be a small town, but it boasts a fantastic little theatre nestled amongst the Victorian buildings. Imagine my delight when I saw a small sign proclaiming "The Nutcracker – A Ballet Production" - what a lovely surprise!

It wasn’t your usual Nutcracker, of course, it was a community performance with the most adorable children, clumsy but enthusiastic men playing the toy soldiers, and an elderly, yet absolutely charming Drosselmeyer! It truly brought tears to my eyes, it was such a wonderful experience to watch a performance filled with genuine passion and raw talent. I felt so proud to be surrounded by a community who held art so close to their hearts.

Speaking of passion, did I mention my orange tutu? It really felt like the perfect outfit to embrace the energy and vibrancy of this delightful town. I got a few looks, I'll admit, especially when I had a quick twirl around the town square, and some delightful compliments too! Maybe orange is my new lucky colour?

My heart always warms when people comment on my tutus – I just want everyone to try ballet and embrace a bit of its beauty in their lives. It doesn't matter if you're a professional, or you've never even touched a ballet shoe! The joy, the passion, the stories it allows you to tell, it's truly infectious.

So, here’s my challenge for you, darlings: Put on your fanciest tutu (pink, orange, whatever tickles your fancy!) and spin around for yourself. You never know, maybe you'll find a hidden ballerina inside waiting to bloom. I bet it'll be more fabulous than any orange tutu adventure, but don't tell Pont-y-pool!

XOXO,
