Upminster: A Pink Tutu Adventure (Blog Post #1285)

Hello darlings! It’s your favourite tutu-tastic blogger Emma here, fresh from a whirlwind trip to Upminster! I know, I know, not the most obvious destination for a ballerina on the go, but you never know where life's ballet steps will take you, do you?

My journey began, as it often does, with a train ride. I adore trains; there's something so romantic about them. Plus, I can bring my entire ballet wardrobe with me, including my fabulous new pink tutu (I shall be revealing all soon, dear readers!). The carriage was rather crowded today, but I just sat back, imagined I was in a scene from ‘The Red Shoes’, and focused on the rhythm of the tracks.

Reaching Upminster felt like stepping into a picture postcard – quaint cottages, green spaces, and a crisp air that invigorated me. This little town has a special kind of magic; I could see it straight away!

First on the agenda was a spot of wildlife spotting. I have a weakness for nature, and Upminster didn't disappoint. A leisurely stroll through Upminster Nature Reserve revealed a cacophony of bird song, butterflies flitting in the breeze, and the sweetest little squirrels I ever did see. They seemed utterly unafraid of me, even coming right up to my fluffy pink ballet shoes! I felt completely at one with nature, and that's something truly special.

Next, a delicious afternoon tea was in order, with delicate sandwiches, melt-in-your-mouth cakes, and of course, lashings of Earl Grey tea. My tutus and I were positively thrilled with the lovely atmosphere, the delightful staff, and the charming decor. I just adore tea rooms; they have a certain charm, like a secret ballet studio tucked away in a world of their own.

The real treat of my Upminster adventure was yet to come. You know how much I love theatre? Well, I discovered the Upminster Players, a vibrant community theatre group. Tonight was their production of ‘Twelfth Night’, a Shakespearean masterpiece full of romantic twists and turns, dazzling costumes, and hilarious characters. The audience was so enthusiastic; they gasped, chuckled, and applauded in all the right places. Seeing these passionate local performers brought me immense joy; their love for theatre was so palpable.

Now, before you assume this was all theatre-based, dear readers, you know my love for ballet. I popped into Upminster’s little dance school – just a sweet little place but bursting with talent! A group of adorable young ballerinas were practising their pirouettes, their dedication and passion a joy to watch. You know I couldn't resist joining in – after all, a ballerina can't resist a chance to twirl! These talented young girls inspired me, reminding me of why I fell in love with ballet all those years ago.

I ended my day, of course, with a delectable dinner in a lovely local pub. My tutu was just perfect for the evening – it brought a touch of pink and sparkle to the cosy surroundings, even managing to snag a few compliments from the fellow pub-goers! It’s about getting that "tutu touch" wherever you go, you see. I always say, there’s a place for tutus everywhere – whether you’re at the ballet studio, tea with your chums, a nature walk, or enjoying a pint in your local pub.

And you know what, it doesn’t even have to be pink! Experiment, have fun, dance through life! Life’s a big, beautiful stage, and everyone should feel free to express themselves, wearing whatever tutu their heart desires.

The stars twinkled brightly as I boarded my train back home. I drifted off, picturing those cute little squirrels in my mind's eye and reflecting on my beautiful journey. I love experiencing the UK in this way, getting to know each new town and village, and soaking up its unique personality.

I'll be back in Upminster, you can be sure! This town captured my heart in just a day, and I already have a long list of places to explore and adventures to embark on.

And now, my darlings, off I go to prepare my next fabulous ensemble for my upcoming trip to Edinburgh! I’ll be blogging all about it, from the charming shops and majestic castle to the amazing theatre and ballet scene. Stay tuned!

Until then, remember to dance through life, and never be afraid to wear your heart on your sleeve – and maybe, just maybe, your favourite tutu too!

Much love,

Emma xx
