TutuBlog #1380: Rugby with a Green Tutu! 🩰

Hello, darlings! It's Emma here, your resident tutu-loving travel enthusiast and all-round ballet fanatic. It's Monday morning, the sun is shining (or at least it's not raining… yet!), and I'm brimming with excitement to tell you about my whirlwind weekend adventure in Rugby!

Now, I know what you're thinking – Rugby?! That's hardly the first place that comes to mind when you think "ballet", is it? But trust me, lovelies, it was absolutely an adventure, and it involved… yes, you guessed it, a green tutu! ☘️

This weekend was all about getting out of Derbyshire and breathing some fresh countryside air. Now, as you know, my darling readers, I love my train journeys. The gentle chugging, the endless view, the sense of anticipation as you speed towards your destination – it's pure bliss. 🚂 This time, though, I took a slightly different approach to getting there…

On Friday, I saddled up with my faithful companion, Rosie the Shetland pony, and set off on the scenic route to Rugby. Let me tell you, those grassy lanes and rolling hills were an absolute joy to gallop across! My bright pink tutu (a custom creation by my beloved local seamstress, Fiona, of course!) practically danced in the breeze, leaving a trail of pure sunshine wherever we went. ☀️

By Saturday morning, I'd arrived in Rugby, ready to explore. First on the agenda, the Rugby Museum, of course! It's not every day you get to see the very first ball used in rugby, and I have to say, I was thoroughly charmed. It wasn't quite the same as my favourite antique tutu (a little lace number with feather trim, if you're asking!), but the history was fascinating nonetheless.

Later that afternoon, I strolled through the charming market square, taking in the sights, sounds, and delicious aromas. Oh, my darlings, I simply adore those independent cafes that serve the most wonderful cakes and teas. You can practically feel the love and passion that goes into every delicious morsel! Naturally, I was sporting my new green tutu, a vibrant green to match the emerald lawns surrounding the museum. And wouldn't you know it, I ended up with a bunch of enthusiastic children in tow, eager to learn a few ballet steps. Who would have thought, Rugby's next generation of dancers might just be the next big thing! 🤩

The highlight of my weekend, though, had to be the spectacular evening performance at the Rugby Theatre. It was a modern, reimagined interpretation of Giselle, but with a distinctly contemporary twist! Think lyrical, sweeping choreography, captivating costuming (oh, how I wished I'd brought my pink tulle dress for the occasion!), and a breathtaking score that moved my very soul. The energy was palpable, the applause deafening, and the feeling of joy in the theatre was utterly contagious!

That's one of the things I love most about ballet, my dears. It's a universal language, spoken through every step, every graceful leap, and every dramatic pose. You can find it in grand theatres, in quiet studios, and even in charming market squares, connecting people from all walks of life in a shared passion for beauty, movement, and artistry.

My time in Rugby ended with a lovely morning breakfast in a bustling, buzzing café. My companions – the resident cat, Winston, and the owner, a wonderfully chatty gentleman called Arthur – provided me with endless entertainment! After all, who wouldn’t be charmed by a grumpy cat, a cup of freshly brewed coffee, and a slice of heavenly fruit cake, all enjoyed under a warm, sunny sky?

And that's the wonderful thing about life, my lovelies – you never know what adventures await you, even when you least expect them. It doesn’t matter whether you're in a big city or a charming town; a bustling studio or a tranquil field. All you need is an open mind, a love for beauty, and of course, the perfect tutu!

Until next time, my darlings, remember, life's too short to live in beige. Wear your pink, twirl with abandon, and always strive for those beautiful ballet dreams!

Love always,

Emma x
