Bishop Auckland: A Tutu-ful Trip! (Post #1540)

Hello my lovely tutu-loving friends! Today I’m writing to you from the quaint and charming town of Bishop Auckland, a place that’s captured my heart (and my camera roll!) with its gorgeous architecture and rich history.

This trip was all about getting my tutu-wearing fix, with a fabulous performance of ‘Swan Lake’ by the Royal Ballet at the beautiful Bishop Auckland Town Hall. Can you believe I managed to snag tickets? A total pinch-me moment!

Now, I know what you’re thinking… a ballet performance in a small town? Well, you wouldn't believe how gorgeous it was! The theatre was so intimate, you could feel the energy from the dancers vibrating through the entire building. Plus, I’m a firm believer in experiencing the beauty of ballet beyond the grand theatres of London – a magical night out no matter where you are!

But before we get to the performance itself, let's talk about how I arrived. As usual, I wanted a bit of adventure. No boring planes or buses for me! This time I chose a scenic journey on the trusty steam train, chugging my way through the countryside. It felt like stepping back in time – a whimsical journey perfect for fueling my ballerina soul. The journey was filled with beautiful views – lush green fields, charming villages and picturesque rolling hills, the perfect backdrop to my colourful day.

Reaching Bishop Auckland, I had a wander around the town centre before the show, taking in the sights. And what sights they were! The majestic Bishop Auckland Castle with its history dating back to the 11th century, the fascinating Auckland Castle, and the vibrant colours of the cobbled market place. It’s the kind of place that inspires a touch of the whimsical in your wardrobe. I know you've probably seen my latest obsession: the yellow tutu! This time it felt absolutely perfect against the backdrop of this historical beauty. It's all about those contrast – a dash of sunshine against the classic backdrop. I even found a quaint little cafe with delicious afternoon tea that matched the yellow perfectly. So dreamy!

As for the show itself, ‘Swan Lake’ never fails to captivate me. The power of the music, the emotional range of the story, the breathtaking artistry of the dancers, all left me utterly mesmerized. Seeing those swan feathers take flight through the air, feeling that incredible strength and beauty of ballet all around… just pure magic! It's the kind of experience that stays with you long after the curtains have closed.

Even the journey home had its special touch! I caught the first train out after the performance. It was just me, the moonlit landscape, and a sleepy train. But trust me, I still couldn't contain my joy!

This trip wasn’t just about ballet and gorgeous architecture. This small town had an unexpected bonus: wildlife! You'll find a small, charming local park and the stunning Bishop Auckland Arboretum, and guess what? The resident red squirrel spotted me – they’re a total cutie!

And you know me, a photo opportunity was not to be missed! It’s official, my love affair with squirrels is blossoming! They truly encapsulate the playfulness of the town. And who knows, maybe I'll be inspired to design a red tutu to capture this furry encounter. What do you think?

Bishop Auckland, you’ve certainly left a lasting impression on this Derbyshire girl. Thank you for a wonderful trip filled with tutus, steam trains, ballet, beautiful history, and furry red friends. Don’t forget to join me on www.pink-tutu.com tomorrow for another fabulous adventure!

And remember, never let anyone tell you to take your pink tutu off – wear it with pride! You never know, it might even inspire someone else to embrace their inner ballerina. Until next time!
