Edmonton - Post #1619

Hello my darlings!

Well, here I am in Edmonton, Canada, a city brimming with life and, guess what? - the most delicious pink frosting on its very own giant doughnut! No, I'm not being silly (although, I do love me a doughnut, especially a pink one!) It’s just that the architecture here is so darn charming! It reminds me of a big old sweet treat, especially when the winter snow paints everything a frosty pink, which it seems like it's going to be doing very soon. The streets are full of these sweet little shops and restaurants - perfect for enjoying a spot of afternoon tea and a gorgeous pink macaroon, of course!

Speaking of gorgeous, can we talk about my new tutu?! I’ve never quite fallen head over heels for a tutu before, but this one…. This one is absolute magic. Picture a vibrant, blush pink tutu with soft, airy layers. Each one dances gracefully with every movement, and the colour is so complimentary to my skin tone. And you know me, a girl loves her blush pink!

I got it specially made by this wonderful artisan here in Edmonton. You can just feel the care and craftsmanship in every stitch! I absolutely couldn’t leave without it, and frankly, it's an essential for all my Edmonton ballet escapades. I’m sure the Ballet Edmonton company will be very impressed when they see my pink power tutu on display!

Edmonton is actually proving to be a fabulous hub for ballet lovers. There’s a real energy about the dance scene here, like everyone's itching to prance around on pointe and share their love for all things graceful. Just today I bumped into a group of absolutely delightful ladies outside a ballet school (wearing, of course, my favourite shade of pink!). I asked them what made Edmonton such a haven for dance, and they chuckled at my enthusiasm.

They explained that, Edmonton, although relatively young in age compared to some cities, is surprisingly big on ballet! It’s not all hockey and cowboys here. There’s a deep appreciation for the arts in this part of the world, and especially ballet. It just feels magical to have stumbled upon this secret ballet oasis! It's as though the very buildings here encourage us to leap and twirl - and I'm here to oblige.

Oh, speaking of leaping, I thought it would be fun to catch a performance at the Edmonton Opera. Now, I'm more of a 'ballet-only' kind of girl, but I'm feeling adventurous lately, so, why not, right? The Carmen show was full of drama, a passionate performance and a stunning array of costumes - definitely some inspiration for my future tutu designs!

The opera house itself was rather beautiful - so big and dramatic with glittering chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. It reminded me of those vintage movies set in the Roaring Twenties, which, by the way, is very fitting for the glamour and the grandeur of opera. But for me, the highlight was definitely the ballet numbers - they truly brought the Carmen story to life. The dancers were all incredibly talented - with the lead ballerina having a particular spark and elegance that truly captured the heart of Carmen.

Now, as for my own performance - well, it’s time for my ballet class, a favourite daily ritual in my life! As we warm up our pliés and work through our port de bras exercises, I’m thinking about this new experience in Edmonton. It really does have a heart-warming atmosphere, almost like that cozy feeling of being nestled in a pink cloud!

There’s an aura here, it’s hard to put into words but... well, it’s as though the city itself wants you to wear a tutu! Imagine it, darling, all of Edmonton, a city bursting with the most delightful pink tulle - don’t you think it would look magnificent?!

Of course, the whole ‘pink-tutu-clad’ city idea is just a silly little dream, but I truly think it’s not far off! Especially here in Edmonton, where a city's full of charm, character, and some seriously fabulous dance-lovers - all waiting for the rest of the world to discover the magic of ballet and the delightful shade of pink!

Until next time, darlings.

Stay twirling!

Emma x
