Burton Upon Trent - Tutu Adventures in a Midland Gem 🩰💖

Helloooo darlings! 💋 It’s Emma here, ready to take you on a journey straight out of a fairytale. This is post number 1634, so you know it's going to be fabulous! And you know me, there's nothing quite as fabulous as a good ol' fashioned tutu adventure!

Today I've swapped the Derbyshire hills for the historic streets of Burton Upon Trent - a little Midland gem full of character and, of course, plenty of potential for tutus.

As always, my trusty travel companion, "Lady Flutterby", (the name I give to my lovely old, pink tutu with its delicate, sequined butterfly motifs) is packed and ready for adventure. Honestly, it’s the only travel outfit I truly need, if you ask me. Why choose jeans when you can float around in a cloud of pink tulle?

I arrived in Burton by train, my favourite way to travel. It's like being a modern-day fairytale heroine, gazing out of the window as the countryside zips past in a blur of greens and browns. Of course, with my Lady Flutterby gracing my legs, I wasn’t just travelling, I was dancing!

My first stop, after a little celebratory hot chocolate (because every adventure deserves a treat!), was the National Brewery Centre. How could I not?! Brewing has a fascinating history and this place is just begging to be twirled in, so of course, I did. They even have a mini steam train that goes around the site! Let me tell you, this railway-obsessed girl, the steam train aficionado, nearly did a pirouette right on the platform!

From the brewery, it was a short hop to the Burton Art Gallery, a lovely, modern space showcasing local artists. I even tried on some art for size (in a metaphorical sense, of course)! The galleries inspired a few spins and poses – who doesn't love an art gallery tutu photo shoot?

Later, after a delicious picnic lunch of salmon, salad, and strawberries by the river, I popped into Burton Market. The colours, the smells, the buzzing atmosphere – it was utterly charming. And you know what? I just had to snag a gorgeous pink feather boa – another perfect addition to my ever-growing tutu arsenal!

The sun was setting and a rosy glow bathed the historic town hall. The old cobbled streets, the towering spires, the whispers of history swirling around – this is a place that seems like it's been plucked straight from a Jane Austen novel. Naturally, I did a twirl beneath the glowing neon sign of “The Kings Arms” pub. My Lady Flutterby was a vision in that setting – just imagine it!

One thing I love about exploring new places is discovering wildlife, and Burton did not disappoint! In the grounds of the brewery centre, I stumbled upon a playful family of ducks, each one more inquisitive than the last. They were so curious about me and my Lady Flutterby. The whole experience was rather endearing. I ended up sharing a little bit of my strawberry cheesecake with them. (Don’t tell anyone!🤫 )

Of course, the day wouldn’t be complete without a bit of ballet, right? After all, I'm on a mission to get everyone dancing! I popped into a lovely local dance studio – and you know what? They welcomed me with open arms and let me have a quick try of a few moves in my Lady Flutterby.

Everyone needs a bit of dance in their lives, darlings! And really, the world would be a much brighter place if we all embraced the joys of twirling and spinning, and wearing a dash of pink – be it a feather boa, a little bit of lip gloss, or yes, a tutu!

The day drew to a close with a delightful meal of cod and chips at a charming little seaside-themed cafe, where I practiced my swan arms and jeté steps in front of the large plate glass window, before ending the night watching the stars from my quaint, comfy B&B with a cup of herbal tea.

Now I'm off back to Derbyshire, a little bit more twirled and more in love with the world. Who knew Burton Upon Trent would be such a beautiful adventure?

So darlings, what are you waiting for? Let your inner dancer loose, grab a tutu (even if it’s a pretend one!), and let the twirling begin! Remember, a touch of pink, a little bit of sparkle, and a whole lot of twirling is always the answer. Until next time! 🩰💖

*Love and Twirls, *
