Welling, Post #1717: Tutu-ing Around the South East, American Style!

Hey everyone! It’s Emma, your pink-tutu-loving ballet aficionado, writing to you live from the beautiful village of Welling, nestled somewhere between the hustle and bustle of London and the sprawling green fields of Kent. Today's blog post is bursting with girly fun, twirls, and…drumroll please…a sneak peek into my latest tutu obsession: American style!

Oh my goodness, where do I even begin? It's been a whirlwind week filled with train journeys, captivating ballet performances, and a touch of wild escapades in the Kent countryside. As usual, my trusty pink tutu has been by my side for the adventure!

It all started last week in Derbyshire. My mum's friend is a curator at a beautiful theatre and invited me to see "Giselle" - a stunning ballet performance that just took my breath away. The elegance, the storytelling, the ethereal movements – it was absolutely magical! I spent the entire journey home pondering the performance, and of course, brainstorming outfit ideas for the upcoming events in London and Welling.

The next morning, I was on the train, and guess what? I finally met that cute boy who lives in London I’ve been chatting to online. You know, the one with the adorable smile and a fondness for all things ballet (can you even believe it?). He’s a bit of a romantic and we shared a heartfelt chat about our love for the art form. And as if fate was conspiring, I discovered he has a ballet ticket for the same performance in Welling. Talk about synchronicity!

Arriving in Welling felt like stepping into a postcard. Quaint little cottages, adorable boutiques selling homemade delights, and friendly faces beaming at me – it was idyllic! I checked into my charming little hotel (complete with a secret garden, no less!) and spent the rest of the afternoon wandering the local area, taking in the sights and smells of this lovely little village.

That evening, I met my London beau (it felt super weird calling him that after just meeting online but who am I kidding, I was smitten!). We strolled through the village together, our chat flowing seamlessly, until we reached the magnificent theatre that was set to host the ballet performance.

This time, the ballet was "Swan Lake" and oh my word, the costume for the swan queen was just breathtaking! It was this gorgeous mix of ethereal lightness and bold beauty, with fluffy white feathers and delicate details that really stood out against the darkness of the stage. The ballet itself was mesmerizing; it’s so intricate and packed with emotion – a total must-see if you ever get the chance!

But you know what stole the show? My tutu! I opted for a new one for this occasion: a shimmering, pink American style tutu that I had been dying to show off. It was full of sass, with layers upon layers of tulle creating a fantastically dramatic look. The contrast with the sleek, elegant ballet costumes made for such a unique statement.

Afterwards, my newfound London boy and I headed to the pub (who would have thought we'd share this love for ballet and beer?), enjoying a cozy pint in the warm atmosphere. We talked about the performance, and then we talked about, well, absolutely everything. This guy's quite the conversationalist, I tell you! And honestly, it was a wonderful end to an absolutely fantastic day.

The following day was an adventure in itself! A group of friends from a local ballet school, keen to show off their skills, invited me to a ballet class held in a beautiful park nestled deep within the heart of Kent. Now, I'm all about classical ballet, but these girls were fantastic! Their graceful movements and passionate expression blew me away, and they really showcased a whole new style that had me buzzing with excitement!

And guess what else happened? I got to ride a horse! Remember I mentioned how I love animals, right? Well, in Welling, they also have this beautiful farm and you can actually go for horseback riding tours. We cantered through the fields, taking in the glorious views of the Kent countryside – truly magical.

But the highlight of the day was discovering the beauty of the wildlife surrounding the village. We stumbled upon a group of fallow deer – the majestic males with their impressive antlers, and the delicate does, watching us with wide, curious eyes. The experience was so peaceful and humbling, it made me realize just how important it is to be connected to nature.

It's amazing what adventures you can find in a small village like Welling! It reminds me why I love travelling so much - discovering new places, meeting amazing people, and making memories that will last a lifetime.

But of course, I can’t let this opportunity pass without a reminder about our shared mission: getting everyone to embrace pink tutus and experience the magic of ballet! After all, why settle for ordinary when you can twirl with grace and charm, all while embracing the fabulous colour pink? So, next time you're feeling like adding a little sunshine and a whole lot of sparkle to your life, just slip on your pink tutu and join me on this exhilarating journey of self-expression!
