Trowbridge, My Darlings! 🩰

Post Number 1757

Oh my goodness, my lovelies! I’m bursting with excitement to share today’s adventures with you, especially since it involved a German tutu! 🤫 Let me backtrack a bit...

This week, my journey took me on the most charming train ride to Trowbridge, a delightful little town in the heart of Wiltshire. The English countryside is just so picturesque; the rolling hills, the little villages dotted here and there, the lambs skipping in the fields – it’s enough to make you want to throw on your cutest tutu and pirouette across the landscape!

But this journey was all about the ballet, of course. My dear friend Penelope had informed me that there was a special workshop happening at the Trowbridge Dance Studio – an opportunity to delve into the world of German ballet! I practically did a jeté out of my seat when I heard that.

Now, if you haven't ventured into the realm of German ballet, you're missing out! They have such a distinctive style - a wonderful mix of power and elegance, with an emphasis on strong technique and incredible control. And as for their tutus... oh my dear, let me tell you, these were different. They are almost like structured pieces of art, so incredibly intricate and detailed, with layers upon layers of soft tulle and delicate lace. Just thinking about it makes me want to spin!

We arrived at the dance studio – it’s a charming little space, you know, with beautiful wood floors and a bright, sunny atmosphere. There we met the workshop teacher, Frau Müller, who greeted us with the most cheerful “Guten Morgen!” and a warm smile. I'd learnt a few German phrases before we arrived - “Hallo”, “Danke Schön,” and “Bitte” - and as I stammered my way through a simple greeting, she just laughed warmly, “Guten Tag, liebchen! Welcome, welcome!”

I couldn't resist asking her about the tutus, "Are they really this beautiful, Frau Müller? What's the story behind them?" She explained, “Oh, my dear, German tutus are all about artistry! They take ages to create, often with intricate embroidery, handmade decorations and unique fabric combinations. And it’s the perfect way to show off your technique and movements.” She went on to tell us about some of the historical aspects – apparently, tutus were originally designed in Germany! Fascinating, right?

But enough about history, the real star of the show was the workshop itself! I learned so much about the intricacies of German ballet. We practised intricate footwork and complex jumps, all while Frau Müller carefully explained the historical origins of each movement and why the style focuses on that specific technique.

We ended the session with a gorgeous “pas de deux” routine, and as I gracefully swirled in the arms of one of the other dancers, I couldn’t help but feel a surge of absolute joy! It was one of those moments where I completely fell in love with ballet all over again. The elegance of the movements, the connection with my fellow dancers, the pure pleasure of moving through space – it's pure magic!

I also learnt some new ballet terms in German which are hilarious to say - * "schön", * "glatt" and my absolute favourite, "lecker" - which just sounds like such an awesome dance word, don’t you think?

So, what can you take away from today’s adventure? I'd say there's definitely a theme:

Don't be afraid to explore new styles! You never know what wonderful discoveries await you beyond your comfort zone. German ballet, or even any new ballet style, is just another way to express yourself, to learn something new, and to be a part of something amazing.

And also, never underestimate the power of a beautiful, intricate tutu! There's nothing quite like a perfectly crafted piece of attire to elevate your confidence, inspire your imagination, and boost your ballerina mood. I can practically feel my inner ballerina blossoming with just a single spin! 💖

Of course, I couldn’t resist snapping a few pictures. Don't worry, I've already uploaded them to the Pink-Tutu site – head over to the Gallery and take a peek. You might just be inspired to throw on your tutu and pirouette with joy!

Until next time, my lovelies. Stay twirling, stay vibrant, and stay pink! 💖🩰
