Hanwell Calling! (Post #1780)

Hello darlings! It's Emma, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, here, bringing you another dose of ballet-infused sunshine straight from my diary. Today, I'm sharing with you the adventures of a pink tutu-clad girl exploring the charming town of Hanwell.

Now, Hanwell, my lovelies, is a bit of a hidden gem, a proper quintessential English town tucked away in West London. I always love getting to explore the quieter corners of the big smoke, and Hanwell really has a delightful vibe about it. You know, quaint streets lined with charming cafes and boutiques, independent bookstores and bakeries with window displays that make your tummy rumble just by looking at them. It felt like I had stepped into a whimsical watercolour painting – oh, I just adore the way the colours just shimmer and flow!

You’re probably wondering, “Emma, what took you all the way to Hanwell? And what on earth were you doing with a cyan tutu? Surely you wouldn’t forsake your signature pink, would you?”

Well, darling, that’s where the real story begins. As you know, my latest project is a little collaboration with the Hanwell Arts Festival, promoting “A Month of Pink.” Yes, you heard that right. Every day in Hanwell, for the next four weeks, someone will be rocking a fabulous pink tutu, from local school children to grannies to even the mayor! They’ve chosen a vibrant shade of magenta as the festival’s pink, but I, my darlings, decided to stand out from the crowd (because we love to be a bit different, don’t we?) and went for a shimmering, sky-blue tutu. A dash of unexpected boldness, right?

We started the day with a meet-up at the delightful Hanwell House, a community centre full of creativity and sunshine. It was bursting with pink: streamers, bunting, cupcakes...oh, they were simply divine. I just couldn’t resist snapping a few pics with the darling little children, who, I swear, looked like they were auditioning for the Royal Ballet in their tiny pink tutus. So much talent! They even did a little flash mob for us to the "Pink Panther" theme song, which absolutely tickled me.

After the morning meet-up, I took a stroll along the Thames towpath, a beautiful meander where I enjoyed a delicious picnic lunch - crustless finger sandwiches and scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam, of course! As I sipped my raspberry lemonade, watching the swans glide gracefully along the river, I started thinking...what would this idyllic spot be like with ballet? Could you imagine dancing along the water’s edge, your feet brushing the grass, while swans dipped and dove nearby? My heart fluttered just thinking about it! I envisioned dancers, swirling through the reeds and meadows, as the setting sun bathed everything in a beautiful rose-gold hue… Oh, the possibilities!

Later, we headed to a little art gallery tucked away on a side street. The gallery was buzzing with vibrant, colourful art and crafts, and they were all in different shades of pink! And the best part? I saw a painting of a dancer wearing a pink tutu - truly breathtaking. This just proved to me that even the art world couldn't escape the magic of pink!

You know, the more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that ballet is just perfect for this town. I picture a magical outdoor ballet performance on a warm summer evening. Imagine it: the Thames reflecting the twinkling stage lights, the trees swaying softly in the breeze, and the air filled with the enchanting melodies of Tchaikovsky or Stravinsky. Wouldn’t that be pure bliss?

We finished the day with a delightful dinner at a little Italian trattoria, the windows glowing like little lanterns against the twilight. You wouldn’t believe the amazing ballet performance I stumbled upon in this unexpected setting! There was a group of teenagers having a “practice session,” their moves just bursting with raw energy and playful passion. I could hardly tear myself away! The waiter was watching me with a wry smile and, after a little chit-chat, invited me to join them. Apparently, they all meet regularly and share a love for street ballet - can you believe it? So spontaneous and exhilarating! It's proof that ballet really is everywhere. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the best moments happen unexpectedly, just like today in Hanwell!

And you know what, darling? It wouldn't be surprising if that adorable street troupe finds their way into the “Month of Pink” festival. They truly encapsulated the spirit of creativity and excitement that I’ve seen all day in Hanwell. Maybe I’ll even wear my cyan tutu with their crew - a little surprise burst of colour.

Don’t forget, you can catch my adventures on pink-tutu.com! And remember: if you want to spread a bit of joy and beauty, wear a pink tutu. Trust me, you'll look fabulous, you’ll feel fantastic, and who knows? You might just inspire someone to discover the magic of ballet.

See you tomorrow for another dose of pink!

Emma xxx
