Grantham Glamour: Pink Tutu Travels #2006

Oh darling, the festive season is officially over, and I'm not gonna lie, a little bit of me is thrilled! Don't get me wrong, I love a good Christmas (who doesn't love presents and mince pies, am I right?!) but there's something about the post-Christmas calm that sets my soul on fire! The shops are suddenly a little less chaotic, the Christmas carols have gone back in the drawer, and a certain lightness hangs in the air, full of potential for the new year ahead.

Speaking of new year resolutions, mine is to get you all wearing a pink tutu by the time the clocks go forward! I know, I know, it might sound crazy, but honestly, life is just so much better in pink tulle! It adds a little extra sparkle to everything. You can dance through the park in it, you can wear it for a cheeky supermarket dash (people stop and stare!), or, my favourite - you can wear it to the ballet!

And that's where today's adventure begins. I decided to ditch the car and opt for a bit of vintage glamour. The journey to Grantham had me channelling my inner Mary Poppins (I even spotted a horse on the journey!), and you wouldn't believe the fun I had.

Grantham's railway station has the most lovely Victorian charm to it - I had to grab a few pics in my tutu! It feels like you've been whisked away to a different era. Then it was onto Grantham's historic town centre. This place has some serious history - I swear I felt like I'd wandered straight into a Jane Austen novel.

But what made Grantham really stand out was its stunning new theatre, the Guildhall Arts Centre! I was lucky enough to see the fantastic 'Sleeping Beauty' performed by the Grantham Theatre Company. Now, these guys really know how to do ballet, and I have to give them serious props for the sheer energy they poured into every single dance number. The costumes were a total spectacle, and even if they weren't pink, I felt a warm fuzzy feeling inside, just knowing they were twirling around onstage.

And talking about twirling... well, let's be honest, there's not much more satisfying in life than twirling around in a tutu, is there? It just lifts you right up and lets you forget all your worries. After the show, I found a lovely little courtyard near the Guildhall and, let's just say, I had myself a little private performance. I might even have broken out a few of my favourite moves! 😉

Honestly, darling, if you're a ballet lover like me, Grantham needs to be on your travel list! It's full of charm, history, and artistic flair - a perfect recipe for a truly unforgettable day trip.

Now, onto some practical tips:

Travel:

  • Take a train! It’s a super charming way to get there and let’s face it, who doesn’t love a journey on a train?! Especially when you can dress up like a ballet dancer in a tutu, duh!
  • Pack a pair of good walking shoes. Grantham is a very walkable town, and trust me, you won't want to miss the chance to explore every nook and cranny!
  • If you're feeling fancy, hire a taxi. It’s always good to be able to let someone else navigate the busy streets. But why not hire a vintage cab and let the driver take you to your favourite places around the town! They’d be sure to add a dash of fairytale charm to the experience, wouldn't they?!

Places to see:

  • The Guildhall Arts Centre: A must-visit! Not only is it a beautiful venue, but it has an incredible programme of events. Make sure you check their schedule to see what’s on when you visit!
  • Grantham's Historic Town Centre: A delightful blend of cobbled streets, charming independent shops, and architectural marvels, this place has so much to offer, I could spend a week here and not even see it all!
  • The Grantham Museum: This little gem tells the story of Isaac Newton, who grew up in Grantham. You might not know, but he had a very big influence on science as we know it!
  • St Wulfram's Church: A stunning piece of Victorian architecture, St Wulfram’s Church stands tall and proud in the heart of Grantham. I would absolutely recommend going for a peek, its stained-glass windows are a real sight!

What to do:

  • See a performance at The Guildhall Arts Centre: I went to see a ballet performance and was absolutely blown away! Seriously, darling, go on and have a peek, their programming is diverse and always interesting, with everything from musicals to dance productions to concerts and theatre performances.
  • Shop till you drop: Explore Grantham's independent boutiques and find something unique and beautiful! And of course, wear a pink tutu when you do - pink goes with everything!
  • Enjoy a traditional British pub lunch: There’s no better way to unwind after a day of sightseeing than with a classic pub lunch! Have some gravy and enjoy your experience in this picturesque English town.
  • Embrace the history: Grantham is steeped in history, so grab a coffee at a cafe and make time to stroll around the town. The beautiful architecture will sweep you off your feet and make you wish you could live in this place!

Remember to pack your pink tutu and have a lovely day exploring! If you're lucky, you might even spot a cute fluffy bunny in one of Grantham's parks! There are loads of adorable creatures around, and seeing a cuddly rabbit will make any day feel magical! Don’t forget to share your pictures with me using the hashtag #PinkTutuTravels!

Until next time,

Emma xx
