Rotherham Calling! 🩰💖 (Blog Post #2370)

Hello my beautiful ballet bunnies! 🐰 Emma here, ready to whisk you away to a day filled with pink, tutus, and all things twirly! It’s Saturday morning, the sun is peeking through the blinds, and the aroma of fresh coffee is already wafting through my Derbyshire cottage. But today’s not just any ordinary Saturday - today, I’m embarking on a journey to Rotherham!

You might be thinking, "Rotherham, Emma? Really?" But trust me, my lovelies, this town holds a special place in my ballet heart. It's the home of the fantastic Rotherham Dance Company, a group of absolutely incredible dancers that I'm so excited to see perform. And as if that wasn't exciting enough, I’m sporting my new green tutu for the occasion - oh yes, you read that right, a green tutu! It's got all the classic ballerina frills, but it's just the perfect shade of green to make me stand out amongst the usual pink sea.

Now, as you all know, I’m a big fan of travelling in style, and for today's adventure, I'm taking the train. It’s just so much more glamorous, isn't it? Plus, it gives me a chance to catch up on my ballet readings (right now I'm totally immersed in "The Little Ballet Book" - it's amazing for understanding the basics, and perfect for beginner ballerinas!). And, I've gotta tell you, this train journey is pretty picturesque! The scenery is absolutely breathtaking, just like a romantic ballet scene, but in real life. So idyllic!

Speaking of romanticism, I've got to tell you about this sweet, elderly gentleman I met on the train. He must have been about 80 years old, but he looked absolutely dapper in his tweed suit and perfectly polished shoes. Now, I could have gone with my usual conversation starter - "Are you enjoying the train journey?", but instead, I decided to ask him: "What’s your favourite ballet, good sir?" His eyes lit up like the stars in the night sky. He went on to tell me the most incredible stories about his years as a passionate ballet fan. We talked about everything from the exquisite artistry of Mikhail Baryshnikov to the awe-inspiring grandeur of the Royal Ballet. It was pure magic.

Before I knew it, Rotherham station was right before my eyes! I disembarked with a spring in my step, and that was when I spotted the cutest little wildlife scene: a squirrel scurrying up a tree in the station courtyard, surrounded by pigeons! You wouldn't believe it, but this little scene perfectly encapsulated my whole vibe right now - playful, whimsical, and oh-so-slightly wild. I took a little moment to capture this scene on my camera. You’ll find the photo on Instagram – make sure you give me a follow if you haven't already, darling. It's my ballet world!

I finally arrived at the beautiful Rotherham Theatre, a stunning venue with all the grandeur of a Parisian theatre. Now, let’s be honest, everyone looks amazing in pink tutus - but a little bit of colour is always welcome, isn’t it? And speaking of tutus, there was a whole parade of ballet-goers with their tutus on display: a vibrant rainbow of tulle! I felt so at home amidst this glorious display of dance enthusiasm.

The show was incredible, truly mind-blowing. The dancers from Rotherham Dance Company were so expressive and powerful, yet so graceful and light. They had a special kind of magic on stage, it was just captivating. From the fluid movements of their limbs to the way they navigated their leaps with effortless ease, these dancers truly mesmerised me.

Now, one of the best things about the day wasn’t just the ballet performance, but meeting the dancers themselves after the show! It was an absolute pleasure chatting with these incredibly talented individuals. They were all so warm and friendly, I really felt like they understood my passion for all things ballet. We shared stories, laughed together, and, of course, talked about the magic of tutus!

They even gave me some inside tips about upcoming dance workshops in the area! Now, who says this blogger can’t also be a student? So if you're ever in the Rotherham area, don't hesitate to head over to their theatre for a night of sheer brilliance.

The final act of this amazing day involved a delicious meal at the "Ballet Bistro" - you’ve got to admit that’s an adorable name, right? It's a new restaurant just around the corner from the theatre, and let me tell you, they've got the BEST French Onion Soup this side of the channel. I’m a sucker for the classic French flavours. But if you prefer something lighter, their "Petite Poivre Salad" is heavenly. My tastebuds were absolutely in heaven!

After an evening of ballet, culture, and culinary delights, it was time to say goodbye to Rotherham and head back home. You know I'm a bit of a hopeless romantic when it comes to transport, so of course I was drawn to the sight of a majestic, black horse and carriage waiting just outside the restaurant. How much more glamorous could you possibly be?

A quick trot around Rotherham before I hit the train back to Derbyshire, I’ll always remember this trip for its beauty and elegance - it’s all I’m ever striving for. A simple wish, just like my aim: to get everyone to wear a pink tutu and everyone to try ballet.

I truly believe ballet is for everyone. From the very young to the more seasoned of us. If you can dream it, you can dance it! So why not grab a tutu and have a go, or book your next ballet performance, let's spread the ballet love all around the world! 🩰🌎
