Hammersmith, Baby! #2377 - Pink Tutu Travels Take Me to Italy! 🩰🇮🇹

Hey lovelies! Emma here, your resident Pink Tutu princess, and boy, oh boy, do I have a story for you! It’s Friday the 5th of January 2003, and guess who's off on another adventure? Yep, this girl!

This time, I'm swapping the Derbyshire countryside for the bustling streets of London and beyond - it’s a whirlwind trip! Why, you ask? Well, remember how I told you I'd been dreaming of going to see the Royal Opera House’s rendition of ‘Swan Lake’? Yeah, well, it's finally happening! And get this: they’re showcasing this amazing new production designed by a talented Italian costume designer, and wouldn't you know it, there are more tutus than you can shake a feather boa at!

I know, I know, a little dramatic, right? But can you imagine the pure pinkness? It's practically an assault on the senses in the best way possible. Of course, I couldn’t go to London without making it a fully pinktastic experience. This trip is all about making memories and indulging in my inner prima ballerina. We’re talking fluffy pink cocktails in chic London bars (sorry, mum! You'd approve of the ones I picked), and a pink tutu of course – the more layers, the merrier, I say! It wouldn’t be right to go to a ballet without showing them my own fancy footwork, right?

But let's rewind a bit. You know I'm all about the journey as much as the destination, right? And I just had to embrace the magical feeling of the English countryside. What's more romantic than a train journey to London, especially in January when everything is a bit misty and magical? You know I’ve always loved a good carriage ride, but trains do offer that certain romantic edge too, even when the engine's humming.

I had to take a little detour, of course! You know I have a weakness for furry friends, especially when they’re all fluffy and gorgeous, so I swung by the zoo on the way into London. Imagine the scene: a tiny girl in a massive, pink tutu gazing at playful otters, and some rather magnificent tigers. Just as beautiful!

Let's be honest, you can’t talk about a journey without discussing my attire! I mean, when else am I going to unleash my love for sparkles, sequins and silk? Not that I need a special occasion for that, but when you’re seeing ‘Swan Lake’, it feels almost rude not to dress for the part! I was thinking about getting my tutu shipped here – they can always do bespoke tailoring for all my adventures, I have a fabulous network in Derbyshire! Imagine a pale pink tulle cloud with a dash of gold sequins and sparkling ballet slippers? Maybe that’s a little too flamboyant. Maybe!

The highlight of this entire adventure? Oh darling, the sheer delight of stepping into the grand foyer of the Royal Opera House and witnessing all those beautiful people – from theatre stars to seasoned dancers. It was truly breathtaking. Even the air shimmered, it was like I was suddenly in a fairytale. And when I finally stepped into the auditorium - can you believe it? The entire theater was draped in soft shades of pink! It’s almost impossible to put into words, the beauty of the scene. And the performance? The swans were incredible – both the costumes and the dancing! They really captured the majesty and grace of the beautiful creatures.

Of course, it was a pretty overwhelming experience! There’s something about a ballet performance that touches you deep down. Maybe it's the powerful movements or maybe it's the music – either way, you leave feeling utterly exhilarated.

The ballet company is renowned for its exceptional dancers and I’m in awe of their hard work, discipline, and passion! Watching them on stage gave me such a powerful urge to get my ballet shoes on and give it my all!

You can expect a more in-depth review of the ballet show later on! For now, I just need to give a big shout out to this magnificent Italian costume designer – they brought the magic of ‘Swan Lake’ to life with their creations, and the sheer audacity of choosing pink? Simply brilliant! You just can't not love pink.

Stay tuned, lovelies, because next time you’ll see a glamorous photo of me in a brand-new pink tutu!

Love, Emma xx
