Birmingham Calling: Tutu-ing Through the City (Blog Post #2840)

Hello, my darling dancers and tutu enthusiasts! It's your favourite Derbyshire-born ballerina, Emma, here, and today's adventure finds me in the vibrant city of Birmingham.

My train journey was absolutely delightful! You know me, I can't resist a good train trip – the rhythm of the tracks, the quaint station cafes, the gentle sway of the carriage… it’s just so civilised! It was the perfect way to prepare for the whirlwind of activities I’ve got planned.

Oh, before I forget – have you noticed the glorious sunshine we’ve been having? It's just the right weather to strut your stuff in a pink tutu, wouldn’t you agree? Don’t worry, I'm wearing mine - a luscious lemon yellow creation, perfect for a sunny city stroll.

First up on my Birmingham ballet pilgrimage, was the beautiful Birmingham Hippodrome. A magnificent Victorian theatre! This place just oozes with history. I could practically feel the energy of the countless performances that have graced this stage. Sadly, no tutus were required today, as I was simply catching a matinee performance of "Les Misérables" (the drama! the pathos! the fabulous costumes!), but I already have a tutu picked out for my next theatre visit.

After a spot of afternoon tea with some adorable ballerina cakes – seriously, the tiny tutu toppers were beyond adorable – it was off to the Birmingham Royal Ballet studios for an impromptu class! Now, you all know my philosophy – "a day without barre is a day wasted" – and I couldn't let a trip to Birmingham slip away without indulging in some proper ballet training.

The class was utterly divine. These Birmingham dancers are brilliant! It was so inspiring to watch them move with such precision, grace, and effortless artistry. The energy in the studio was electric, and it left me completely exhilarated. You know I just can’t resist trying a few moves myself - and of course, I had to share my love of the ballet with the others in class. They were so delighted with my sunshine yellow tutu! Who knows, perhaps my trip to Birmingham will inspire more people to take up this wonderful art form. It really is something for everyone!

As the day drew to a close, I took a delightful stroll through Cannon Hill Park. Such beautiful, serene greenery. I think my new motto is: "Always find time to smell the flowers…and to appreciate the beauty of nature." This park was such a delightful contrast to the vibrant energy of the city, and it offered a perfect space for a peaceful moment of contemplation. And let’s be honest, what could be more beautiful than a leisurely walk, tutu twirling, as the sun sets on the city?

Talking of nature, I met a little hedgehog by the pond this evening – a tiny, prickly ball of cuteness! My heart absolutely melted. How can you not be in love with a creature so adorably vulnerable and independent? They really are such resilient and sweet creatures!

Of course, I can’t finish this post without a nod to Birmingham's delectable cuisine. Let’s just say, a hearty pub supper was much needed after the day's activities! I might have even indulged in a sliver of sticky toffee pudding for dessert – purely for research purposes, of course!

As my journey through Birmingham comes to a close, I’m reminded of all the extraordinary things we can achieve when we step outside our comfort zones. It’s not always easy to try new things, but it’s so worth it. Remember, darling, a pink tutu is a gateway to a world of wonder!

Stay tuned for more exciting adventures and fabulous outfits!

Until next time,

Emma xxx
