Nottingham, oh Nottingham! (Post #2843)

Hello my darling tutu-wearers! Emma here, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, ready to regale you with the tales of my latest adventure, straight from the cobbled streets of Nottingham!

It’s been a while since I last hopped on a train – my faithful steed usually takes me on my adventures – but today, it was the romance of steam and chugging that called to me. My destination? The magnificent Theatre Royal Nottingham, where I was absolutely itching to see the Royal Ballet perform Giselle, my all-time favourite ballet. I know, I know, how can you choose just one favourite?! But the tragic love story of Giselle, the doomed peasant girl who falls for a deceitful nobleman, is just… chef’s kiss… perfection!

You see, my dears, there’s something special about watching the greats dance. To witness the strength and grace, the heartbreaking emotion conveyed through every plié, every arabesque, every jeté – it’s truly spellbinding. Watching Giselle reminds me why I absolutely adore the classical ballet world, the dramatic storytelling through movement that just draws you in. It reminds me to embrace those deep, raw emotions and wear them proudly, just as a ballerina wears her tutu with pride.

But before I got lost in the Giselle whirlwind, let’s talk fashion, my lovely pink-tutu-loving readers! For my Nottingham trip, I decided to go for a bit of vintage glam, donning my favourite white tulle tutu paired with a cherry-red corset, a delicate chain necklace with a pink crystal pendant, and, of course, a touch of sparkle with my signature cherry red lipstick. To make sure my look wasn't too theatrical, I layered a fitted black blazer and threw on a pair of black suede ankle boots. Because darling, you’ve got to be comfortable, even in a tutu!

The trip to Nottingham was absolutely delightful, too. It was like stepping straight out of a Dickens novel – cobbled streets, quaint shops, and even a little market square with colourful stalls spilling out onto the path. The energy was so different from my peaceful Derbyshire countryside, a buzz of excitement and a hint of mischievous adventure. And wouldn’t you know it, I discovered the cutest little pink tutu shop nestled among the bustling marketplace. Of course, I couldn’t leave without adding another gorgeous tulle number to my collection - this one a delicate shade of baby pink with intricate beading that will have me twirling like a sugar plum fairy!

Of course, I wouldn’t be me without indulging in a little ballet class before heading to the Theatre Royal. Finding a studio in Nottingham was a breeze, thanks to my trusty ballet app, and it was in the most enchanting little converted Victorian building with soaring windows that brought the afternoon sunshine flooding in. As I stretched and warmed up with a handful of lovely fellow ballet lovers, the teacher led us through a graceful series of exercises, stretching us towards elegance and precision. Each plié, every fouetté, every pirouette was an exercise in grace and discipline. And don't even get me started on the feeling of pure joy I get from hearing the soft "thump" of my feet as I land in perfect fifth position.

And my darlings, the best part? We had an amazing little pink tea party afterwards! We all piled into a quaint cafe nearby, sharing gossip and swapping tips on our favourite ballets and tutu designers, while indulging in delectable cupcakes, macarons and tea that was so delicate, it literally smelled like a Parisian garden. It’s always wonderful to meet like-minded ladies, especially those who appreciate the power of a well-chosen tutu!

After the Giselle performance, I felt absolutely inspired. The storytelling through movement was simply breathtaking! Seeing those incredible dancers, with their unwavering poise and precise control, fueled my own passion for this art form. It reminded me of the beautiful power of ballet, the way it can tell a story without words, weaving emotion and technique into a beautiful, expressive tapestry. And seeing that elegant pink costume, oh my! That is one outfit I would happily dance in – every day!

Speaking of inspiring, have you started your ballet journey yet? Remember, my darlings, you don't have to be a seasoned dancer to appreciate ballet! Start with some online classes, or perhaps sign up for a beginners’ course at a local studio – it’s never too late to unleash your inner ballerina! And, for extra fun, embrace a pink tutu! Believe me, it will make you feel like you can do anything – even leap across the stage with graceful abandon!

Until next time, darling readers,

Stay pink,

Emma xo
