Didcot Diaries: A Stiff Tutu and a Spot of Wildlife

Hello darlings! It’s Emma here, writing to you from the lovely town of Didcot, just a hop, skip, and a little train ride away from Derbyshire. It’s a bit chilly today, but the sun’s out, and it’s giving everything a beautiful, autumnal glow – which I’m absolutely loving, by the way.

Today was all about exploring the wonders of Didcot, which was quite the adventure, let me tell you! The most amazing thing I discovered? The Didcot Railway Centre. This fabulous place is like stepping back in time to the golden age of steam engines, with trains of every shape and size! Now, I’m a bit of a train enthusiast (blame the old-fashioned glamour, darling!), so this was just the perfect place for me to soak up the atmosphere.

And talking of atmosphere, imagine my delight when I stumbled upon the most adorable little shop called "Pink Petticoats"! I simply had to pop in and see what delights were inside, and guess what? I was not disappointed. I walked out with the most beautiful pink feather boa – just perfect for my next ballet performance. Who needs a traditional tutu, anyway? This boa is the epitome of glamorous, edgy ballet, and trust me, you won't find a boa like this in the stuffy old ballet shops.

However, the star of the show was, of course, the Didcot Waterworks, where I got my daily dose of nature. Ducks and geese were quacking away in the pond, a couple of swans were showing off their majestic elegance, and a family of squirrels were busy burying their nuts (don’t worry, they're not my stash!). I find something incredibly grounding about observing wildlife – it’s like watching a little dance unfold right before my eyes! It reminded me, as I sat there watching them, how much I love nature and how much of an influence it has on me, both in my ballet work and in my everyday life.

Now, I know you might be thinking, "Emma, Didcot?! That's just a town… how did you find so much to do?" It's all about perspective, darling! You can find inspiration and beauty everywhere, especially when you're open to it and have your eyes peeled for adventure. Plus, you know, the beauty of a good tutu knows no boundaries – not even the boundaries of a seemingly mundane town!

But let’s be honest, a little slice of ‘everyday life’ can be exactly what we need to refuel our creative batteries, don't you think? For me, I found that this was a very peaceful and enjoyable day.

The best bit? I didn't even need a stiff tutu! Even though the train journey to Didcot wasn't exactly a horse-and-carriage experience, it was still the perfect chance for me to admire the scenery. My new pink feather boa was quite the accessory for the ride too, attracting a few surprised glances and lots of curious whispers. Honestly, it wouldn’t surprise me if I start seeing a whole wave of pink feather boas gracing the streets of Didcot any day now!

I hope my Didcot adventures inspire you to look at everyday life in a different light, maybe even wear a pink tutu to your next adventure. Or a boa, perhaps… whichever makes you feel confident and graceful!

Until next time, keep your toes pointed and your spirit shining!

With lots of love,

Emma x
