Bangor: Tutu-ing Around the Welsh Coast (Post #3209)

Hello, darlings! It’s your favourite tutu-loving ballerina, Emma, and today’s post comes to you from the utterly charming seaside town of Bangor, nestled in the stunning Welsh coastline. I can practically feel the salt air and smell the sea! I’ve been flitting about like a hummingbird, soaking up the beauty and exploring every nook and cranny this enchanting little place has to offer.

Today was all about dancing – but not just the traditional kind, although we did visit the local dance studio, the Ballet de Cymru, for a brilliant session of ballet barre. Imagine a group of us tutu-clad dancers, arms outstretched in graceful poses, mirroring our instructor's every movement, feeling the gentle stretch and warm-up all over our limbs. I could barely resist slipping into a pink tutu myself for a quick pirouette! It's such a pity I can't actually dance yet!

But wait, there’s more! After our class, I had the absolute pleasure of witnessing the most whimsical performance ever. A group of local dancers (wearing those oh-so-lovely pastel tutus – not pink, sadly) put on a breathtaking ballet set on the sands of the beautiful Penrhyn Bay. It was magic – sun setting on the horizon, the cool breeze whipping through my hair, and these beautiful souls moving with such fluidity, all amidst the crashing waves! My heart nearly burst!

Bangor is bursting with artistic charm and history, which was just the perfect reason to don my trusty white tutu and take a walk to Bangor Castle. This beautiful building boasts an exciting programme of theatre performances, and I even saw some little ballerina-in-training (they’d barely reached knee-height) gracefully skipping around the grounds in the most adorable miniature tutus.

It wouldn’t be a proper Emma post without a bit of wildlife! Today, I found myself marveling at the cute grey seals lounging on the rocky shore of Puffin Island (though unfortunately the puffins hadn’t quite arrived yet for their spring sojourn!). It's incredible how they’re perfectly at home on the craggy coastline, a real testament to nature's resilience and grace. Just a small tip – you need a good sturdy pair of walking boots for this trip as the paths are rather rugged. But it was well worth it! It makes me feel connected to the natural world - that powerful feeling of pure contentment, right down to the tips of my pink ballet shoes!

Later in the day, I wandered through the cobbled streets of Bangor. All the locals were out in force - stopping for delicious (and reasonably priced!) pastries in little bakeries and sipping cups of tea, basking in the glorious spring sunshine.

I have to say, you haven't truly experienced the delights of Bangor without a leisurely train ride along the coastal route. It's an absolutely stunning journey - imagine picture-perfect coastal views, green rolling hills, and picturesque villages nestled on the coast, with the wind tousling your hair. For me, a journey by train is always a blissful escape - my head filled with dreamy tunes and thoughts on tutus! I think a journey on horseback might have been even better. Oh to feel the rush of the wind and the galloping of hooves beneath me, whilst my glorious white tutu billows in the wind! I must add that one to my 'to do' list when I return!

I know, dear readers, that you're probably asking yourselves: “Emma, what could possibly inspire such a grand blog post about this tiny Welsh town?” And I answer you: I know Bangor may seem a world away from Derbyshire, but it truly does have something for everyone - beautiful scenery, cultural events, a touch of historical charm, and plenty of delicious cakes and tea to be had. But, the most amazing part? It was so refreshing to feel that same sense of community that I've always cherished in Derbyshire – that friendly, welcoming spirit.

I can honestly say that Bangor has won me over. It's the perfect destination for any tutu-loving ballerina, any adventurer with a pink tutu and a thirst for discovering the unexpected. It's made me feel so utterly, utterly content. So my lovelies, I urge you to add Bangor to your travel plans, embrace the charm of the Welsh coast and feel your heart swell with happiness, all whilst sporting the most stylish tutu, of course! And hey, if you happen to catch me here – don't hesitate to say hello! Maybe we can even take a tutu-clad trip to the coast together? Just imagine the picture, all the ladies in pink tutus! That would make the perfect instagram picture, don’t you think?

Love,

Emma
