Barrow in Furness: Tutu Tales from the Cumbrian Coast!

Hello my lovelies! It’s Emma here, back from another whirlwind adventure. Today, we’re taking a little trip to the charming seaside town of Barrow in Furness, tucked away in the heart of Cumbria. As you know, a girl can never have too many tutus in her wardrobe, and mine was positively overflowing with possibilities! So, I chose my narrowest, most whimsical one – a delicate blush pink confection that floated with every step. It just screamed "let’s go on a seaside adventure!".

We arrived in Barrow by train, of course. What's better than the rhythmic click-clack of the rails, the scenery whizzing by? I was mesmerized by the rolling green hills of Cumbria, a palette of vibrant emerald and deep olive that reminded me of a watercolour painting. I'd even packed my special pink picnic basket, ready to enjoy a midday feast on the beach, with dainty sandwiches, miniature éclairs, and of course, my trusty pink thermos full of delicious Earl Grey tea.

Once we arrived, Barrow embraced us with open arms. It's a seaside town steeped in history, its streets a treasure trove of fascinating stories. The air buzzed with energy and excitement. The harbour was abuzz with boats, both big and small, bobbing happily on the waves like playful sea creatures. We took a leisurely stroll along the pier, relishing the fresh, salty air and the invigorating spray from the ocean.

My trusty travel companion (let's just call him "Mr. Right" for now - but don’t tell anyone he’s a horse! He is rather discreet when it comes to social media!) was excited about the seagulls – he finds their screeching fascinating and wants to add it to his repertoire of bird noises! However, he wasn't as enthusiastic about the seals basking on the nearby rocks. He decided to stick to his veggie burgers and carrots.

We headed for the art deco delights of The Forum, Barrow’s main theatre and entertainment centre. They have a fantastic art gallery – I even discovered an old painting of a lady dressed in a very similar style tutu to mine! The exhibition of contemporary photography really inspired me – it felt very 'dance-inspired'. I’ve started taking my own photography seriously now. Maybe I’ll even incorporate some of these amazing shots into my next blog post?

Speaking of dancing, my favourite part of the day came when I found this wonderful little ballet class held in a charming old studio. It was tucked away above a bakery, and the aroma of fresh bread made me feel completely at home! The teacher, a sweet lady with twinkling blue eyes, welcomed me with open arms, and I couldn’t help but laugh at her delighted "Oh! How absolutely darling!" when she saw my pink tutu. After all, a little pink never hurt anyone! The class was amazing, with other lovely dancers of all ages. The laughter, the gentle movements, and the shared joy of movement just warmed my heart. It’s true that a little bit of ballet goes a long way.

Of course, no seaside escapade is complete without a hearty fish and chips supper. And Barrow in Furness does not disappoint. We enjoyed our delicious takeaway feast by the sea – sitting on a little pink beach towel, perfectly mirroring the setting sun. Mr. Right was most agreeable! I couldn’t resist adding a cheeky twist to the evening – I just had to find some sparkly pink sprinkles to top my chips! And it really did make all the difference. Who needs regular sprinkles when you’ve got pink sparkles? It added a dash of magic to our final evening.

As the stars started twinkling above, casting their silvery shimmer over the sea, we retreated back to our quaint hotel room, filled with the sounds of the sea and the whisper of happy dreams.

Today’s journey proved to me yet again that a simple, vibrant pink tutu can brighten even the cloudiest of days. And let's be honest – even with its delightful cobbled streets, historic pubs, and quaint little shops – what’s Barrow in Furness without a little bit of ballet and a splash of pink?

Until next time, darlings, let’s remember to always wear our tutus with confidence, sprinkle some magic on the world, and never underestimate the power of a well-placed sprinkle of pink. And don't forget: wear a pink tutu and try ballet today! It might just be the best decision you ever make!
