Blyth Bound: Pink Tutu Travels #3282

Oh, hello darlings! It's Emma here, fresh from a whirlwind trip to Blyth! This is going to be a long one, so grab a cuppa and settle in, because there's so much to tell you about this utterly divine weekend adventure.

As you know, I’m always up for an adventure, especially if it involves a train journey – there's something so romantic about watching the world whizz by from a carriage window, don't you think? This time, however, my train journey was a bit special - I was travelling in style! A first-class carriage with complimentary champagne and snacks? Oh, yes, you bet! My friend Jess (who you know from my posts - the one with the incredible headstand) was celebrating her birthday, and she insisted on a first-class splurge! It was pure indulgence and a perfect way to kick off the weekend.

Blyth, for those of you who haven't been, is a quaint seaside town nestled on the northeast coast of England. Now, I've always been a big city girl, but there's something so charming about these little towns - a sense of history and community that I just love.

Anyway, on to the reason for this particular journey! Blyth is home to a fabulous little theatre, The Phoenix. And guess what they were putting on? You guessed it, dear readers, Swan Lake! It's been a bit of a while since I've seen the iconic story, but it's always a treat to experience it anew, especially with such a wonderful production. It’s the most beautiful ballet – it's like a magical storybook come to life. I think they used every single shade of pink in the set design and costumes, and it was just sublime!

Now, I’m all about adding a touch of whimsy to everyday life, and naturally, I couldn’t go to a ballet without a perfectly coordinated pink tutu, now could I? This time, however, I went all out American style – think floaty layers, a bit of sparkle and a colour that popped! Let's just say the whole theatre entrance could have been a scene from a pink-hued fairytale.

Before the performance, Jess and I treated ourselves to the most amazing afternoon tea - dainty finger sandwiches, perfectly crafted cakes, and endless cups of Earl Grey tea, all enjoyed while watching the world go by. Oh, and let's not forget the endless teapot of tea - it was divine! And a must-have for a true ballerina, I feel.

After the show, we strolled along the Blyth pier. It was a perfect summer's evening - the sun was setting over the North Sea, and there was a gentle breeze in the air. We had a delicious dinner at a charming seaside pub, with fresh fish and chips – and don’t get me started on the chips, just perfection. It really is something you just can't get in London!

One of the most special things about Blyth is the wildlife. They've got these amazing colonies of grey seals - such playful and curious creatures. Jess and I sat for hours on the beach just watching them frolic in the waves - it's a sight you just don't get in Derbyshire! We were like little kids, giggling with delight! It was like they were posing for us! The seal cubs, just adorable! They really made the day!

Before leaving Blyth, I felt compelled to pop into the little dance studio in the town, tucked away on a cobbled street. There were little ballerinas practicing, and the music was the most heavenly sound. I even found a lovely antique ballet slipper box.

I also treated myself to some locally crafted, hand-painted pink teacups with tiny ballerina designs - an absolute bargain, I couldn’t resist!

All in all, this trip to Blyth was pure magic, with just enough pink sprinkled in to make it truly unforgettable. This town really captured my heart, with its charming streets, adorable pubs, stunning theatre and adorable wildlife!

So, what can we take away from this adventure, you ask?

  • Pink is still, and will always be, the perfect colour!
  • Don't be afraid to travel - you never know what treasures you'll find!
  • Treat yourself to a luxurious train journey sometimes! It’s a bit of a luxury, I know, but worth it!
  • Enjoy every single minute of the journey! I just want everyone to experience that wonderful sense of wonder at watching the world whizz by!
  • And most importantly, embrace the world around you, even the little things, like a colony of playful seals or a hand-painted teacup!

Until next time, keep it fabulous, and remember, darling, it's always a good day to put on your pink tutu!
