Gateshead in a White Tutu (Blog Post #3397)

Oh, hello darlings! It's Emma here, fresh from a whirlwind trip to the vibrant city of Gateshead, and guess what? I wore a white tutu!

Now, before you ask, no, I didn't go prancing about the MetroCentre in it (although, I must admit, I briefly considered it! The idea of a ballerina sashay-ing down the aisles would certainly be an interesting sight). I saved the white tutu for something much more exciting: the stunning Ballet North performance at the wonderful Northern Stage Theatre.

Let's talk about this city, shall we? Gateshead was a true joy to explore. From the iconic Angel of the North (such a graceful beauty!) to the bustling Quayside, every corner had a charm of its own. Of course, I couldn't leave without stopping by the Gateshead Millennium Bridge - talk about architectural elegance! A bridge that lifts up to allow boats to pass - what an amazing feat of engineering! It just proves that Gateshead, just like me in my pink tutus, knows how to be a real head-turner.

Now, back to the show! I absolutely adored the ballet. It was modern, thought-provoking, and utterly captivating. The choreography was truly masterful, and the dancers were just sensational. There was a delicate balance between elegance and strength, grace and power, just like the perfect pirouette. Every movement, every expression, drew you in, made you feel something. I had to remind myself to breathe a couple of times! I love that ballet can be so emotive, don't you?

I also want to shout-out a big thank you to Ballet North for showcasing their wonderful talents. I mean, have you ever seen a group of people move with such fluidity and grace? They were simply mesmerising. The costumes were exquisite, too - so full of life and character. And the lighting? Breathtaking. There’s a reason why I’ve had an eternal crush on ballet – it truly does feel like magic, don't you think?

You know me - I can’t leave a new city without a spot of retail therapy, right? Gateshead has an amazing independent shops scene, and of course, I had to browse for some ballet-inspired accessories. I even managed to find a gorgeous pink ballet scarf, perfect for a ballerina-chic winter. And what goes better with a pink scarf than a pink tutu? Perhaps not at the theatre, but certainly a statement of intent, I’d say. I know I look rather fabulous in it!

But enough about me and my sartorial triumphs. The real star of this trip was the delightful and friendly locals I met. I absolutely adore how welcoming people are up north. A gentleman offered me his seat on the train, just as my trusty stallion – my horse, Percy - couldn't make it up for the trip this time! You really know how to treat a lady, eh, northeners! The woman behind the counter at my favourite tea room even offered me an extra slice of Victoria sponge cake! Now, who can resist a little extra Victoria sponge cake, especially when you’re in Derbyshire? My friend, Claire, thinks it’s a good thing I’m not as thin as some dancers! Perhaps that’s the Derbyshire way of putting it!

Honestly, my entire visit felt like one big ballerina dream, sprinkled with the charming magic of a vibrant city and generous, warmhearted people. I left feeling energised, inspired, and totally enchanted by this part of England. Gateshead, you've captured my heart!

If you haven’t already, darlings, I urge you to pop over to my website, www.pink-tutu.com, and tell me what you think of this post!

I always love to hear from my wonderful readers. Now, before you go, I have a question for you: what's your favourite colour? Don’t forget to tell me what it is. And while you’re at it, what colour tutu should I try next? It could be any colour, I love trying new things and showing off! Let’s try to make the world a little brighter, one pink tutu at a time!

And with that, I’m off to try out a new tutu, as well as catch up on some much needed beauty sleep!

Until tomorrow darlings, keep on twirling!

Love,

Emma xxx
