Wembley, Oh Wembley! - Post #3407

Hello my darlings!

It's Emma here, back from another magical ballet adventure, and oh boy, do I have a tale to tell! I'm writing this from the comfort of my little flat in Derbyshire, with the crisp autumn air nipping at my nose, and my heart still buzzing from last night's performance. It was the ultimate in fairytale experiences – a magical night at Wembley with a stunningly dramatic tutu that was practically made for a princess!

Wembley is always a treat. I adore London. It's so full of energy and excitement – perfect for a ballet girl on the go! And of course, I couldn't resist the lure of the London underground, that classic tube journey, full of charming, everyday characters! It's such a giggle to see my reflection in the sleek carriage windows in my flowing tulle, I imagine myself a ballerina in the great, grand musicals of old – "The Music Man," "My Fair Lady," that sort of thing!

My European Tutu

And speaking of tulle, this tutu was truly special. My good friend, the wonderfully talented Tilly, from Covent Garden (you might remember her from my blog post #3401, she does amazing hand-painted silk floral creations, darling!), gifted me this magnificent number just for Wembley!

She told me it was inspired by the stunning baroque gowns worn at Viennese balls – layers of silk, adorned with the most beautiful vintage embroidery and trim, with a flowing, almost Elizabethan silhouette. I was so overwhelmed by its beauty that Tilly practically had to drag me to the fitting, which took place, you'll never guess, in an actual working apothecary shop! Imagine – tulle, lace, and an ancient medicine jar in the background – now that was an Instagram moment if ever there was one!

But let me tell you, it was worth every penny! This tutu truly oozed class. When I first slipped it on, I literally gasped! It moved so beautifully with me as I danced, the layers swaying and swirling. I looked absolutely elegant and graceful - or, well, as elegant and graceful as a dancing badger, I suppose, but who's going to argue with a truly glamorous and utterly enchanting look, am I right?!

The Ballet – A Feast for the Senses!

And the show itself? Just heavenly! It was a company called β€œNorthern Lights," showcasing some absolutely breathtaking contemporary choreography. There were such wonderful contrasts – from powerful, earthy movements to delicately nuanced, almost ethereal grace. There were times when it was hard not to gasp – their bodies moved like living works of art. I just had to give a hearty applause!

One moment, I felt transported to the ancient Greek myths, the next I was lost in a futuristic cityscape bathed in shimmering neon lights, which made my European-inspired tutu blend into the surroundings effortlessly – my skirt billowed into the dark theatre as I almost felt I was flying through the air with the dancers. My tutu must have stolen the show for a minute or two – I felt truly in my element, like a princess dancing among the stars.

I know this sounds silly – the princess thing, I mean - but a girl can dream! It is the whole fun of ballet - embracing fantasy! I can see a little ballet-loving me running about on stage with a magical European tutu! I even got a couple of envious looks from some of the more traditional, older ballerinas who I noticed staring my way throughout the performance! It really did turn a few heads - I had to whisper β€œyou look lovely darling" in their ears to lighten the mood - that's me being kind! A friendly smile can go a long way when you want everyone to see that tutu, can't you agree?

A Whirlwind of Colour and Culture

And, as usual, Wembley never fails to delight. You really do meet the most fabulous people! There were elegant couples dressed to the nines – he in a tuxedo, she in a breathtaking ball gown. And then, there were the delightful groups of young children, practically bubbling over with excitement – it was absolutely heart-warming!

Oh, and can we talk about the delicious scent of popcorn and candy floss that filled the air? Honestly, it’s like being at a magical carnival! And the sounds! There was the orchestra playing its powerful score, the excited whispers of the audience, and the delicate click of the dancers' shoes - the sounds of pure joy! It was pure sensory overload!

The other thing that really stands out about Wembley is the diversity of it all. You get this fantastic mix of ages, nationalities, cultures, and style – it's simply vibrant. It really reminded me of that incredible trip I took to Spain for the Seville Feria – a kaleidoscope of bright colors, passionate music, and delightful energy, all crammed together! And the costumes – let me tell you, those women have got it down! Such elegance, grace, and color, just like the flamenco! They really embody that wonderful spirit of the feminine.

Life’s too short to live without a little sparkle…or a pink tutu

The highlight of my day was, of course, the show, but even those seemingly mundane little details are the things that truly make Wembley magic – those things that really fill the soul with joy and excitement, wouldn't you say? I believe that we can bring this sort of energy and magic to life with just a little bit of joy and effort - something I'm aiming to do through my blog, darling! Just be you! Be you in pink, and embrace your dreams and wear a tutu with pride, my dear. Life's far too short to stay at home without a bit of sparkle and flair.

* Until next time, darlings!*

*Lots of love, *

Emma
