Urmston: Tutu-ing Through the Trees!

Post Number: 3518

Hey lovelies!

It’s Emma here, your pink tutu-clad adventurer, and I'm back with a tale from the charming town of Urmston, just outside Manchester! This little slice of Lancashire proved to be a wonderful surprise - and the perfect place to channel my inner ballerina amongst the greenery.

My journey to Urmston began, as it often does, with a jaunt by train. I absolutely adore train journeys. The gentle rumble of the tracks, the picturesque scenery flashing by the windows, the delightful click-clack of the carriage – pure magic! There's just something so liberating about hopping aboard a train, knowing that you’re hurtling towards an adventure, leaving all your worries behind. This time, my train was packed with fellow dancers and theatre buffs all heading towards Manchester’s vibrant performance scene. We giggled, chatted, and even performed a spontaneous barre in the aisle (shh, don't tell the conductor!).

But enough about the train (though I could go on for ages!) – let’s talk about Urmston and my extraordinary nature-inspired tutu! Now, anyone who knows me knows that I live for the outdoors. As a true Derbyshire lass, I grew up exploring the rolling hills and hidden woodlands of my county, and the thrill of finding a wildflower hidden among the trees or spotting a deer flitting through the undergrowth never gets old. So, when I saw the beautiful parks and green spaces surrounding Urmston, I knew I needed to honour them with a truly unique outfit.

Enter, the "Willow Whisper" tutu. It’s made with layers of flowing pink tulle that gently sway in the breeze, resembling a canopy of willow branches. Adorned with hand-stitched embroidered leaves and dainty floral accents, this tutu was a little piece of the wild, brought to life with a ballerina twist. It was the perfect combination of elegance and nature’s whimsical spirit, and it absolutely brought the whole woodland to life around me.

We had a marvelous time in Urmston’s Wordsworth Park, a delightful oasis of flower beds and peaceful pathways. The flowers were a glorious kaleidoscope of colours, the scent of roses and lavender swirling around us like a delicate, floral perfume. And as I twirled among the flowers, I couldn't help but think about the beauty of nature, the joy it brings us, and the magic we can create when we connect with it through dance.

The Willow Whisper tutu, though spectacular, was not the only show-stopper on our journey! Urmston’s Urmston Grammar School (now known as Urmston Grammar School for Boys ) is known for its fantastic musical and theatre programmes, so naturally, we had to pop in and see what was on offer. They were running rehearsals for their next musical, and my goodness, those young dancers were fantastic! The energy, passion, and talent were undeniable, and seeing those kids give their all made me beam with pride for the next generation of dancers. It’s heartwarming to see how many youngsters are choosing to embrace the beauty of movement and performance, carrying the flame of dance into the future.

Later that evening, we were treated to a fabulous ballet performance at the beautiful The Lowry. The show, a stunning retelling of 'Giselle,' captivated the audience from start to finish. The ballerina who danced the role of Giselle was exquisite, her movements a masterpiece of grace and precision. But, my absolute favourite part? You guessed it - a vibrant pink tutu. Seeing her twirl around in that exquisite shade of pink reminded me why I love tutus so much! They're not just garments, they're wings of pure joy, allowing us to soar to new heights of creativity, freedom, and self-expression. It was a magical reminder of the powerful and transformative force of dance, a true testament to the beauty and power that flows within every one of us.

You know what they say - all good things must come to an end. So, after a whirlwind of floral beauty, spectacular shows, and delicious afternoon tea (scones and clotted cream, of course!), it was time for me to catch a train back to Derbyshire. Urmston, I leave you with a heart filled with gratitude for your hospitality, your delightful parks, your inspiring young artists, and your magical ballet performance.

But before I sign off, I want to leave you with a question: Have you ever considered trying ballet? Whether it's taking a class, seeing a performance, or simply finding your own way to move and express yourself, ballet can bring so much joy to your life. Remember, every single person can dance, in their own unique way. Let’s make the world a more beautiful, more expressive place, one pink tutu at a time!

Until next time, keep twirling,

Emma xx
