Portsmouth: Tutu Time in the Seaside Town!

Hello lovelies! It’s Emma here, back with you from sunny (well, it's trying its best!) Portsmouth, a town that's definitely growing on me. Today, I decided to brave the chilly seaside wind in my brand new green tutu. It’s not pink, but hey, you can't wear pink all the time, can you? This green beauty is quite sassy with its bright, lime-green colour and fluffy layers, perfect for twirling amongst the tourists and the seagulls!

Now, let me tell you, getting to Portsmouth was half the fun! Instead of hopping on the train, I opted for a gloriously sunny horse ride through the countryside. Riding through those lush green fields, with the wind in my hair and a huge pink tutu flowing behind me, it felt like I was starring in my own fairytale! The horses here in Derbyshire are so used to seeing me out on adventures, they just trot along happily with my fabulous tutus flapping about!

And speaking of fabulous, the Royal Navy's historic dockyard in Portsmouth was an absolute treat for the eyes! So many beautiful old ships and naval artefacts to marvel at. It was almost enough to make me forget all about the dancing! Almost... Of course, I couldn't resist taking a few twirls amongst the towering masts and ropes. Just imagine the looks on the faces of the tourists when a vision in a green tutu pranced past them! The only problem was my trusty steed, Daisy, found herself a bit too fascinated by the huge ships! I had to be quite the equestrian goddess to persuade her to leave the maritime museum alone, haha!

After all that history, it was time for some modern entertainment, and let me tell you, the ballet here was brilliant! A fantastic troupe of dancers at the Portsmouth Kings Theatre - the energy was just electric. It wasn’t a traditional performance, oh no! This was ballet street, the hip hop and modern twist on classical moves that has everyone doing a double-take. Now, I love the traditional, classic ballet just as much as the next tutus-wearing ballerina, but this fresh new style was just so exhilarating! Seeing the dancers so perfectly execute these complex moves while their bright neon outfits bounced off the stage lighting was like magic!

And then came the moment I’d been waiting for, the part that always sends shivers down my spine and fills my heart with so much joy – the tutu! It was the show’s final act, a solo piece with a dancer in a fluffy white tutu, perfectly mirroring the angelic elegance of classical ballet. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Honestly, the emotions ran so high it felt like the whole theatre was swirling along with her. I’m not afraid to say a tear or two slipped down my cheek, too! You can’t beat the sheer magic and emotional power of a truly incredible dance performance!

Talking about the magic of dance, did I mention my newest hobby? Oh my, you have to hear this! A couple of weeks ago, I discovered a fantastic place called "Tutu Tribe", an organisation dedicated to getting kids all over the UK hooked on ballet. Every Sunday morning they host a ballet class, just like a big tutu party! And they don't care if you can’t tell your bourrée from your chassé! All that matters is the joy of moving and expressing yourself, and believe me, there’s nothing more joyous than twirling around in a tutu!

That’s exactly what we did this weekend, all bundled up in fluffy pink, yellow, and turquoise tutus – a dazzling rainbow of happiness and pirouettes. You know I love a good pink tutu, but seeing kids' faces light up with the thrill of dancing makes me think maybe there's more to it than just pretty dresses! Ballet, even in all its craziness, really does have a way of making you feel absolutely alive!

Now, off to conquer the rest of Portsmouth with my trusty pink tutu! This place is full of life, colourful and just buzzing with energy. I bet the local wildlife won't mind me joining in on the fun - they’re definitely used to me and Daisy turning up in all sorts of outfits! You can bet I'll share the photos of me with my little feathered friends on our adventures later on today.

Remember, darlings, there’s no age limit on embracing your inner ballerina! Embrace those bright colours, throw on that sparkly tutu, and go dance your hearts out! Until next time, keep those pink tutus twirling!

Love, Emma xx
