Derby Daze! 🩰💖 (Post #3626)

Hey darlings! It's Emma here, your pink tutu-loving ballerina, and today's post is a bit of a love letter to the beautiful city of Derby. I've been here for the last couple of days, soaking up the culture and the charming streets (and of course, the ballet!), and I've gotta tell ya, I'm absolutely smitten.

I took the train here, of course. You know how much I adore train travel. The clickety-clack of the wheels, the gentle sway of the carriage, and the window views - so much more delightful than boring old planes! Plus, it gives me plenty of time to practice my pliés and pointes without drawing any strange stares. 😉

Now, you all know my mantra: Pink tutus and ballet for everyone! But even though I always have my signature pink tutu packed (never leave home without it!), this trip called for something a bit more "Derby" - a vibrant, bold, and electric hue. I decided on a cyan tutu, the colour of a crisp summer sky, perfect for capturing the energy of this city! I can already see it: everyone dancing down the Derby streets in vibrant, exciting colours. A veritable ballet of joyful movement!

So, let me tell you a little about what I got up to:

Derby, The Theatre Capital of the Midlands!

Firstly, Derby boasts an impressive little theatre, The Derby Theatre, which, believe it or not, is a National Portfolio Organisation. (Fancy!). Now, as someone who lives and breathes ballet, you know I was giddy to see what was on the bill. It turns out, the stage was bursting with "Strictly Come Dancing" vibes! (Cue excited squeal!) Yes, a vibrant and talented cast took to the stage for a captivating performance that showcased the very best of Latin and ballroom. They even had a special spotlight shining on an exquisite sparkly pink dress! I almost couldn't contain myself. Let's just say there may have been some happy tears and a few excited whoops from this girl in the front row...

The Ballet School with a Big Heart

Of course, I couldn't come to Derby without a visit to The Dance Works Studio. It’s a real gem of a dance studio with an unbelievably kind and welcoming staff. I attended one of their ballet classes, and wow! Talk about a wonderful workout. You know, it's always so inspiring to be surrounded by like-minded dancers, sharing the passion and dedication for this beautiful art form. We're like one big tutu-clad family!

I took notes on a couple of exciting routines, and even got some insider tips from a local teacher on some fun, beginner-friendly steps to try at home. Now, you know what I love most, right? Spreading the ballet love! So, you can bet your bottom dollar I'll be sharing these steps with all of you soon! Keep an eye out on Pink-Tutu.com for my next video, my dears.

Adventures in Nature

It's not just the city life that enchanted me. Derbyshire's countryside, especially near Derby, is simply breathtaking! I even found myself wandering through the charming and ancient Derby Arboretum. There were peacocks strutting their stuff and even a family of ducks quacking happily by the water. And, wouldn't you know it, one of those fluffy ducklings decided to pose for a quick photoshoot with me. (Remember, darlings, even ducks appreciate a good pink tutu!)

Honestly, it’s amazing what a bit of sunshine, open space, and the sound of chirping birds can do for the soul! It's just the tonic after all that elegant dancing, isn't it?

Dinner With a Dash of Sparkle

To end the day, I enjoyed a delectable (and pink, of course!) dinner at The Queen’s Arms. It was a picture perfect setting: a cosy and warm pub, twinkling lights, and the friendly staff (I was in heaven!). They even had the most delicious looking pork pie, with a pink rosette on top. (You know I had to try it!) The food was delicious, and the atmosphere made me feel so comfortable and welcome. It's exactly the sort of place I could happily while away the hours, talking with my fellow ballet fanatics, enjoying the charming pub ambiance, and dreaming about twirling and spinning my next ballet routine.

So much more than a pink tutu:

Derby has quickly become one of my absolute favourite destinations. The city's got this unique charm and vibrancy that makes you want to stop and savour every minute. They even have the most exquisite bakery called "The Cake Box," which is like a Willy Wonka chocolate factory for cakes. It was there that I got to indulge in my sweet tooth with the most delicious rosewater-infused buttercream cake. The best bit? It was pink, of course! (I couldn't resist!)

So, what can I say, my dears? It's a bit hard to leave, but you know what they say: all good things must come to an end... For now! But, don’t worry! I'm already planning my next visit. And let's be honest, it won’t be long until I’m dreaming up ways to weave the beauty of Derby into a brand new ballet routine! I can just see it now: the vibrant city colours, the elegant movements, the twirling tutued figures - a celebration of all things pink, playful, and beautiful!

Till next time, darling! Keep those pink tutus sparkling and those dreams big. 💖 -Emma
