Barrow in Furness: Tutu Adventures and a Narrow Escape!

#TutuBlog Post 3740

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, back from my latest adventure. As you all know, I live for the thrill of travel and exploring new corners of our beautiful world. This week, I've been channeling my inner Jane Austen and trading in my trusty ballet shoes for a pair of elegant riding boots, as I journeyed to Barrow in Furness, a quaint little town nestled on the shores of Cumbria.

Now, you might be wondering why Barrow in Furness, and what could possibly entice a tutu-loving gal like myself to this, shall we say, less glamorous destination. Well, the truth is, it all started with a tweet! I was scrolling through my feed (as one does) and saw a stunning picture of a horse-drawn carriage pulling up to a beautiful old manor house. Naturally, my curiosity was piqued, and I quickly discovered the Carriage Museum, housed in the charming 18th century Abbots Hall.

I've always been fascinated by horses, ever since I first saw those glorious creatures at my local riding stables back in Derbyshire. There's something truly magical about their strength and grace, not to mention their shimmering coats - a pink one would be absolutely divine, wouldn't you agree? Anyway, I knew I had to see this carriage museum for myself!

Now, here's the fun part – to get there, I opted for a most romantic journey – the train! It’s one of those magical journeys where the countryside speeds past, blurring into a patchwork of green fields and quaint villages. The railway line, I must say, seemed to be running along a cliff top with views that made my breath catch in my throat, which is saying something when you're wearing a tutu as wonderfully snug as this one. It’s a little bit more on the "whimsical-but-slightly-less-wide" side. I call it "tutu-tastic," but even I must admit it wouldn't be suitable for a proper ballet class. Oh well, a good day for an impromptu street performance! I did cause a minor stir when I leaped onto the station platform, twirling like a whirlwind in my pale pink creation.

At the museum, I felt like I'd been transported back in time. The carriages were simply breathtaking – exquisite works of art with intricate details and lavish upholstery. You could practically smell the scent of leather and polished wood as you admired their beauty.

And guess what, my darlings? The museum also has a wonderful exhibition dedicated to the history of the horse-drawn carriage in Barrow in Furness, showcasing local carriages used in all sorts of functions – transporting cargo, passengers, even participating in thrilling horse racing! They had carriages designed for all kinds of purposes, including some that looked surprisingly like the ones from Cinderella! I had a good look for a pumpkin-shaped one but no luck this time, unfortunately. Oh well. Plenty of other fantastic vehicles for me to ogle at, though, and some of the horses – stunning! A bit more pink and glittery, perhaps? But that's just my "tutu" style talking!

Once I'd explored the museum to my heart's content, it was time to find some sustenance. And I know you're wondering what a fashionable tutu-wearing girl like me eats on the road, and so, I'm proud to reveal – pancake heaven! This charming little cafΓ© called the 'Pancake Parlour' served up the most divine pancake creations you can imagine. The lady who owned the place, a delightful woman with a passion for her craft, was a perfect mix of kind and a bit kooky, just like me, so of course, we talked at length about everything from pink tutu fashion to the latest news in the world of horse carriage racing.

I sampled everything on their menu (well, I did try everything). Who could resist a pancake stack piled high with Nutella, strawberries, whipped cream, and a sprinkle of magic dust (probably just cinnamon, to be honest)?? As I savored the delectable pancakes, I couldn't help but think of the ballet world. For me, there's an elegance, a graceful flow to how we use our bodies when we dance. I see the same elegant artistry in the way these pancakes are created and enjoyed, so perfect, just a beautiful bit of "delicious theatre,"

Barrow in Furness was full of surprises, you know. This unassuming little town has a certain charm, a quiet elegance that truly resonated with my own tutu-loving soul. It reminded me that beauty and grace can be found anywhere, and it doesn't take a grand ball or a glamorous stage to appreciate the artistry in our lives.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to take on my next adventure, but trust me, it will be as charming and tutu-worthy as this one. You can catch all the details tomorrow, my darlings! Don’t forget to pop over to www.pink-tutu.com to see the latest posts.

Until then, spread some pink tutu joy and may all your dreams twirl into reality!

Yours in sequins,

Emma
