Rutherglen: Where Food Meets Tutu!

Post 3830

Hey darlings! It's your girl Emma, back with another pink-tutu-filled adventure! Today, I'm writing to you from the charming town of Rutherglen, just a hop and a skip from bonnie Scotland.

This little gem of a town is absolutely brimming with history and, wouldn't you know it, a whole heap of food! You see, Rutherglen is famed for its sweet, sweet strawberries. So much so, that I've made it my mission to incorporate those lovely red beauties into my tutu for today. You're looking at a strawberry-printed, layered tulle delight, with little edible strawberry embellishments! My mum had the bright idea – she knows I love strawberries, even when they're on my tutu, haha!

Speaking of family, you all know I adore travelling by train. The journey from Derbyshire was a proper blast – window seat, comfy carriage, and my own little corner for daydreaming about all the adventures to come. It felt so chic, so French… imagine a stylish woman with a Parisian beret, twirling in the aisle to her own inner ballet tune!

The journey was even better, thanks to a lovely chat with a family of travelling swans. It turns out their patriarch is a former dancer with the Royal Ballet! He's been to some incredible places, all thanks to the magical power of the ballet. We shared stories about his favourite roles, and he gave me some invaluable tips for choosing the right footwear – swan lake style is definitely not something you want to tackle with ballet pumps!

So, Rutherglen itself! It's a delight, bursting with little, independent shops and charming cafes. I simply adore the character of these old buildings and, oh my gosh, have you seen their gardens? Lush and brimming with all kinds of flowers – perfect inspiration for a ballet choreographic routine. My creative mind is buzzing, darling!

And then there’s the food…oh, the food! Rutherglen is famous for its strawberries and cream, naturally! I’ve indulged in several of those delectable pairings today, all the while looking utterly fabulous in my pink-tutu and strawberries! The people have been delightful! Everyone's so kind, offering up their favourite cafes, and even sharing tips on the best place to buy the most delicious, local strawberry jam. It’s all about local, artisanal experiences!

After my morning stroll, I headed for the Rutherglen Town Hall – what an architectural marvel! A majestic Victorian-era structure. My camera has been in overdrive! It makes me so happy to see how beautifully old buildings are being maintained – true architectural elegance!

But it’s not just about the aesthetics – Rutherglen is home to a whole host of local musicians, artists and creatives, who are busy adding to the vibrant scene. This charming little town just feels filled with energy. They are creating a dynamic atmosphere, and you know, dear readers, that’s what my tutu and I love most!

The highlight of my trip was undoubtedly the evening folk-ballet performance in the town hall. They were wonderful! The dancers were talented and engaging, effortlessly moving to the local folk music – it truly had me captivated. Their love for the art, and the talent they presented, reminded me of why I fall so head over heels for ballet – it's an art form that connects us to our emotions and passions.

They weren’t using pink tutus, but I reckon they would be lovely! The colour pink just brings a spark to life, don't you agree? This reminded me of something my favourite ballet instructor, Miss Bell, taught me. She always says, “Wear your tutu with pride and confidence, darlings! It’s more than just an outfit – it's an attitude.” So I try to keep this mantra at the forefront of all my outings. After all, if a little pink tutu can’t add some happiness and colour to your day, then I don’t know what can!

As the evening light fell on the streets of Rutherglen, casting long shadows, I was swept away by a wave of pure joy. It felt like I had travelled through a postcard from a bygone era, one full of sunshine, laughter and genuine community. It's easy to fall in love with this charming place, with its warmth, its delicious food, and, yes, it's fabulous and fun attitude towards the arts!

As I write this blog, enjoying the quiet glow of the setting sun from my little, strawberry-inspired tutu, I am struck by the incredible beauty of life and how amazing the journey has been so far. It's been filled with new discoveries and wonderful people! So remember, darlings, to always twirl through life with a smile and your pink tutu. After all, the world is waiting to see you shine!

Love and tutus,

Emma x
