Frome - A Whirlwind of Pink and Plié

Post Number 3845

Oh darling, what a whirlwind of a day I've had! I've just landed back in my little Derbyshire cottage, and I'm positively buzzing with the excitement of Frome. This enchanting little town, nestled in the heart of Somerset, has stolen a piece of my heart (along with my attention, for the past 24 hours, of course).

As I said, the journey was a joy. Who can resist a train ride with a gorgeous pink leotard, the wind tousling your hair, and the scenery flashing by? The world looks so much prettier when you're on the move! (And, yes, I did attract a few curious glances. My little pink tutu, worn over my jeans, had that effect. Don't be shy, people! Pink is power, and tutus are just… well, divine).

Now, onto Frome itself! I'd heard tales of its artistic spirit, its independent shops, its thriving foodie scene, and of course, the ever-popular "Frome Independent." Oh, but how could I forget the breathtaking landscape? It felt like stepping into a vintage postcard - rolling hills, sheep grazing in golden sunlight, and that gloriously green countryside. It truly reminded me of why I adore those gentle countryside jaunts, preferably on a good, sturdy steed, hair flying in the wind... you get the picture!

The first thing that greeted me was the beautiful Frome market, bursting with colours, sounds and delicious smells. Everything was so beautifully handmade and unique. A charming gentleman was selling handmade jewellery that shimmered with exquisite opulence, and I, well, I practically leapt at the chance to wear one of his sparkling butterfly brooches – the wings looked just like real butterflies, a detail that almost made me cry.

I wandered into the charming "The Book Nook," which, if I'm being completely honest, could have held me captive for hours. Their eclectic collection of books - vintage, rare, quirky - was like an artistic oasis! They even had a book club that looked like a wonderful group of eccentrically stylish people with a deep love of literature (how divine). It's one of the best bookstores I've ever been in, and I couldn't resist adding another quirky tome to my already overflowing shelves.

The food, darling! You wouldn't believe it. Imagine the sweetest, most decadent macarons, infused with the most surprising and delightful flavours, all bathed in golden light, alongside stalls brimming with fresh produce and the promise of delicious concoctions. I couldn't resist a scrumptious hot chocolate with whipped cream – just what a ballerina needs after a day of exploration! I swear, I even heard a rumour that there was a nearby alpaca farm serving delicious homemade fudge! It truly was a treat for all the senses.

In the afternoon, I went on a little adventure into the Somerset countryside, a walk that truly painted the town pink, for me at least! I'd spotted a charming local wildlife reserve - imagine, beautiful meadows, a cascading waterfall, and a whole symphony of bird songs. What could be better? And the air... the air was like a fresh breath of magic, swirling around me. You see, I find great peace in being surrounded by nature - it feels so raw, so full of wonder. I'm even learning the names of all the different types of birds. So fancy!

On a whim, I spotted a small ballet studio tucked away, a hidden gem! With the promise of a new class, and the scent of that beautiful, dusty dance floor, I almost squealed! My dancing shoes were calling my name, so in I went, a quick warm-up, some beautiful adagio, then some invigorating work at the barre. And what a glorious sensation, every movement, every twist and turn, a delightful celebration of life! It was like magic in every single step. If you ever come to Frome, it’s a must. Don’t forget to take your dancing shoes.

Of course, a trip wouldn't be complete without seeing a show, and tonight's performance at the local theatre truly exceeded all expectations! I must say, darling, a new ballet company that makes everything pink! It was absolute perfection. From the stunning tutus, shimmering in all their fuchsia glory, to the graceful movements, and the exquisite performance, it was an absolute joy! They are so unbelievably talented, and their passion for dance shines brighter than the thousand and one stars of a summer sky.

I know I say this about everything, but you know, I just had the most fantastic time in Frome! If you love independent shops, vintage boutiques, beautiful scenery, friendly faces, a touch of pink magic, and the heart-stopping beauty of a truly breathtaking ballet, then Frome is a MUST. It truly was a whirlwind, one filled with laughter, inspiration, and an abundance of pure, unadulterated pink!

So, go ahead, darling! Grab a friend, your dancing shoes, and your favourite pink outfit and get ready for your own Frome adventure. Don’t forget to wear a pink tutu! The more pink, the merrier!
