Colchester Calling: A Pink Tutu Adventure! 🩰🌸

Hello my gorgeous readers!

It's Emma here, back from my trip to the beautiful, historical town of Colchester, Essex! Now, this is post number 3911 (I know, I'm a bit of a blogger!), and this time I’ve taken a trip down south for some cultural exploration, topped with a good dose of ballet! Don't worry, a pink tutu (obvs!) accompanied me every step of the way, and as always, there’s a heap of ballet loveliness to share with you.

The Journey Down: Trains & Tutus!

As much as I love the thrill of a horse ride, sometimes there's nothing better than settling in on a train journey for a good dose of scenic beauty, contemplation, and… ballet practice! This time, I popped on my bright pink tutu (with a splash of sparkle, of course!) and channeled my inner ballerina, stretching my legs and flexing my feet on the comfy train seats.

Colchester: History & Culture Galore

Colchester, wow, what a charming town! Its cobbled streets are teeming with history. We explored the ruins of Roman walls, delved into the stories of Boudicca (my fave!), and marveled at the towering Colchester Castle, where I found myself posing like a ballerina, striking my best arabesque in front of the imposing facade! It’s a reminder of the rich cultural heritage in this little town.

A Night at the Theatre: Ballerinas Under the Spotlight

No trip is complete without a visit to the theatre. This time, it was the Mercury Theatre, Colchester, hosting a fantastic performance of “The Nutcracker.” The beauty of this story just gets me every time. From the first tinkling bell of the toy soldier’s music box to the mesmerizing snow scene, every moment of this classic was simply stunning. You wouldn’t believe the effort it takes to do those ballet moves - let’s face it, I have enough trouble just mastering a single fouetté, and these ballerinas, they make it look effortless! Hats off to the wonderful cast - the artistry and passion on display truly set my soul alight.

Breakfast in Pink & Ballet at the Barge

Of course, no ballet adventure is complete without the all-important ballet breakfast! In this case, I chose the delightful 'Pink Pig' cafe for my dose of morning loveliness. Their pink pancakes and pink tea were perfect to start the day and gave me the energy for some serious barre work! Speaking of barre, my afternoon took a slightly unexpected but fabulous turn: a drop-in ballet class aboard the "River Orwell" barge! Honestly, it was the most charming, unexpected dance session ever! Imagine, barre exercises overlooking the calm water, sunlight filtering through the windows, and the rhythmic sound of the barge gently swaying... It was absolute magic.

Essex Wildlife & a Touch of Wild!

No trip would be complete without a little bit of wildlife. I headed down to Colchester Zoo for an encounter with nature’s wonders. Watching the graceful elephants lumbering around their enclosure gave me a good chuckle. I also found myself feeling strangely connected to the monkeys, their playful energy mirrored in the mischievous glint in my eye when I did my best monkey barre work during a private practice session at the end of the day.

Tutus & Inspiration

Let's face it, every single step of this adventure was a reminder of why I'm so passionate about ballet! Each new town, every historical monument, every performance - they’re all little stories that come together to tell one bigger, brighter story. A story that inspires me to share the joy and beauty of ballet, even if it means dragging a little bit of pink fluffiness along for the ride!
