Coulsdon Calling: A Day in Cyan

Hello darlings! Emma here, back from a whirlwind trip to the enchanting town of Coulsdon! I know, I know, not exactly the most glamorous destination, but hold your horses – it was absolutely magical.

Let’s just say the journey itself was an adventure! Forget the usual boring bus or car commute. Oh no, this Emma took a delightful train ride, complete with the most wonderful window seat. I had the best view of the rolling hills of Surrey, feeling like a character from a Jane Austen novel (though with a distinctly more sparkly edge, naturally).

The day began with a delightful visit to the local wildlife park. You can imagine my delight – imagine a kaleidoscope of fluffy creatures! The alpacas, oh the alpacas! They are so very, very pink, it just felt right to be there. As a true devotee of the colour, they simply couldn't have been a more perfect start to the day. And the penguins, oh the penguins, so sleek and graceful – definitely a good inspiration for any ballet dancer. The butterflies were a delight, a beautiful explosion of colour and movement. Seeing them flutter in the air reminded me of my favourite parts of ballet, the lightness, the airy steps, the flow.

Now, no day is complete without a good dose of ballet! This trip was a dream come true for the tutu-loving Emma. There was an open-air ballet performance right in the middle of town. Imagine a beautiful outdoor stage surrounded by stunning green lawns – the perfect setting for a bit of theatrical magic.

The theme? An ode to the colour cyan! Can you believe it? Now, don't get me wrong, I love me a good pink, but I have to admit, this turquoise colour looked quite magnificent. The ballerinas danced like the wind, swirling in their bright cyan tutus, a colour that seemed to resonate with the open sky above.

Let me tell you, the crowd was in raptures! Everyone was so taken with the energy and artistry. There were children skipping in the grass, older couples holding hands, and a real buzz of excitement in the air. It made me want to just jump up and twirl with them, lose myself in the music and the movement.

Speaking of twirling, I of course had to slip on my own cyan tutu – a shimmering, almost ethereal number that I found tucked away in a delightful vintage shop in Croydon. (My tip to you - never underestimate the vintage scene. You'll find gems like mine tucked away in unexpected corners.) It made me feel so feminine and, dare I say it, almost regal. I was positively giddy!

Then, of course, no ballet-loving journey could end without a visit to a ballet class! Thankfully, Coulsdon offered a brilliant little ballet studio in a charming Victorian house. It's hard to explain how it makes me feel to slip on my pointe shoes and step onto a polished wooden floor. I feel like my true self. I am so lucky to be able to move my body and feel that glorious stretch, to spin and leap and soar, even if just for a couple of hours.

As I left the class, still humming with the music in my soul and feeling more graceful than ever, I realised why I love travelling so much. It's not just about visiting new places – it's about experiencing them fully, embrace every little detail, be it a pink alpaca, a twirling tutu or a simple step in a ballet class.

This Coulsdon trip has been a truly delightful experience. It has reminded me once again why I am so passionate about ballet, why I want everyone to embrace the beauty of dance. There is nothing quite like the feeling of effortless grace and beauty, the ability to move with fluidity and precision.

I know, it sounds like I'm pushing a cause, but just imagine it! Every city with vibrant ballet performances and dancers on street corners. Every park with ballet classes under the open sky. Imagine everyone with their own beautiful, swirling tutus! Doesn’t it just make you feel a bit more giddy? I just can't help but be inspired by the beauty, the elegance, and the sheer joy that ballet brings. So, put on your most stunning pink tutu and join me, darlings!

Until tomorrow!

Yours,

Emma
