Fleet: Tutu-ing Around with a Touch of Orange

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your resident tutu-enthusiast and chronicler of all things pink and pirouette-tastic. Today's adventure took me to the charming town of Fleet, Hampshire, where the sun was shining, the birds were singing, and my inner ballerina was doing a little celebratory pas de deux.

The train journey was delightful. I love watching the world go by from a comfy carriage seat, sipping on my usual rose-scented tea. There's just something magical about seeing the English countryside unfold before your eyes - rolling hills, quaint villages, and the occasional horse grazing peacefully in a field (much to my delight, as you know how much I adore them).

As I stepped onto the bustling station platform in Fleet, I couldn't resist a twirl in my vibrant orange tutu. You know, the one I found nestled among a pile of vintage treasures at a little market in Derby a couple of weeks ago. It's definitely not your average pink tutu (although I wouldn't dream of abandoning my signature colour!), but I have to admit, this orange one is practically begging for a photo op in the afternoon sunlight.

Fleet itself is a treasure trove of independent shops, cosy cafes, and hidden alleyways bursting with character. My day was a whirlwind of window shopping, picking up a delectable (and surprisingly affordable) French macaron from a cute patisserie called "Le Petit Pâtissier," and people-watching from the warmth of a coffee shop nestled in the heart of town. And, of course, I had to do a quick waltz in my tutu in front of the grand Victorian-era library. You know, just for the gram!

I can't talk about Fleet without mentioning the lovely local park. It's like a scene out of a ballet. It's perfect for practicing my pirouettes and grand jetés amidst the dappled sunshine, and the sound of the rustling leaves was a natural, beautiful accompaniment to my movements. My imagination went wild imagining myself as a woodland fairy, flitting between the trees and gracefully landing on the moss-covered logs. (No spoilers, but a new tutu post with photos in the park is coming soon!).

Speaking of nature, I can't let this post pass without talking about my encounter with the wildlife of Fleet. As I wandered down a charming, cobbled street, I stumbled upon a group of swans paddling peacefully in a pond, and I just couldn't resist snapping a few pictures. Their grace and serenity made me think of the elegance and precision of ballet movements - and it just reminded me that nature's artistry rivals even the most incredible performances we see in the theatre.

Now, I know what you're thinking: how can a tutu girl ever resist visiting the Theatre Royal Drury Lane? Of course, I took in a stunning rendition of "The Nutcracker" this weekend. As soon as the lights went down and the curtain rose, I was whisked away to a magical land where the story of Clara and her adventures unfolded beautifully before my eyes. I got lost in the exquisite choreography, the magnificent costumes (oh, the tutus! I swear, I might just add one like Clara's to my own collection!), and the soaring music. You know I always love a good "en pointe" performance, but the beauty and skill of the dancers left me speechless.

Speaking of performance, let's talk ballet! As you know, ballet class is an absolute must for me, and this past week, I took an open level ballet class at the Royal Opera House, something I highly recommend if you're ever in London. Even though my little ballet feet have had a lot of experience, there is always something new to learn!

The session focused on exploring and deepening my understanding of port de bras. Have you tried incorporating the gentle "floating arm" in your warm up? I can assure you, it's one of the most beautiful and elegant stretches I've done. It almost feels like you are soaring through the air, while at the same time deeply connecting with your core. The feeling of that slow, deliberate movement was incredible.

Of course, I love exploring new areas, finding new places, and experiencing new things. I mean, why stick to one place when the whole world awaits! My aim in life is to see the world (preferably by train) and to get everyone dancing, all wearing the most exquisite tutus (preferably pink!), so keep those suggestions coming, my darlings. Tell me where you would love to see me go!

But right now, my dearest friends, I must go! I have a dance rehearsal at The Birmingham Royal Ballet to get to. But before I go, I'll leave you with one more little nugget of pink-tutu wisdom:

Don't be afraid to twirl! Even if you feel a little bit self-conscious, embrace that inner ballerina and dance your heart out. There is something liberating and powerful about twirling, even if it’s just for a few seconds in your own kitchen! Trust me, a little bit of twirling will make your day brighter and your steps lighter!

Keep twirling,

Emma
