Welling, Post #4297: A Tutu-tiful Time in the Home Counties

Oh, my darlings, I'm positively delighted to be back on the blog, and today I've got such a glamorous tale to tell you all. You see, after a lovely visit home to Derbyshire, where I spent some quality time with my dear mum, we packed our bags and set off for a little weekend adventure in the beautiful Home Counties.

I've always been smitten with the charming towns and villages tucked away in this region, with their historic buildings, charming boutiques, and the distinct aroma of freshly baked bread wafting from local bakeries. And Welling, oh Welling, you were truly a gem!

Our journey started in style, of course. I hopped onto a luxurious train at the beautiful old station in Derby – a much more civilized way to travel, wouldn't you agree? With a cuppa in one hand and a good book in the other, I whizzed through the countryside, dreaming of all the pink tutu adventures awaiting me.

We settled into our delightful little cottage in the heart of Welling, and the very first thing I did was unpack my trusty travel tutu. A blush-pink confection with layers upon layers of tulle, it’s a piece of wearable whimsy and absolute ballet magic! There’s truly no better feeling than spinning and twirling in my tutu, feeling like a tiny ballerina princess!

After unpacking, we embarked on a delightful walk through the enchanting lanes and fields, my ballet flats tap-tap-tapping along the cobbled paths. It was as though a ballet choreography was unfolding before my eyes, the leaves of the ancient trees rustling like the music, and the playful wind rustling through my tulle as if a gentle conductor’s baton.

The highlight of our Welling weekend was undoubtedly a visit to the theatre. Oh, my dear readers, what a spectacle! It was an exhilarating performance of “Giselle,” filled with graceful pirouettes, grand jetés, and impossibly beautiful adagio sequences. The story, about a heartbroken village girl betrayed by love, moved me to tears, especially during the haunting and ethereal scenes featuring the ethereal "wilis." The ballerina in the leading role was exquisite, her every move a poem of fluid elegance. Afterwards, I felt so inspired! My darling readers, I've been taking extra steps in my warm-up routine ever since.

Speaking of inspiration, Welling itself is a haven for artistic expression. There are charming art galleries where local artists showcase their talents, and delightful antique shops filled with unique finds, just waiting to be discovered. My heart skipped a beat at one charming antique shop I stumbled upon! They had the most stunning, antique French dressing table – the epitome of elegance and refinement.

We finished our delightful weekend with a leisurely afternoon tea at a quintessential British tearoom, nestled amongst quaint cottages, each adorned with climbing roses and brightly coloured geraniums. The dainty finger sandwiches, fluffy scones with clotted cream and jam, and piping hot tea were simply divine! I swear I even managed to spot a cute robin perched on a windowsill nearby. Birds are such graceful creatures – their movements remind me so much of ballet!

As I bid farewell to Welling, I felt a twinge of melancholy. The whole town felt like a fairytale, filled with hidden beauty and charm waiting to be explored. And of course, I left with my head filled with dancing dreams.

I promise you, dear readers, a life full of adventure is truly what brings out the inner sparkle. It’s about being open to discovering the joy in everyday moments, embracing the whimsical, and allowing the spirit of the ballet to flow through you! Now, how about we all put on our favourite pink tutus and go out into the world, twirling our way to happiness?

Stay twirling, darlings!

Emma
