Dover: Fairy Dreams and Pink Tutu Travels

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your resident tutu enthusiast, and guess what? Today I'm whisking you away to the stunning white cliffs of Dover! Yes, this Derbyshire girl is swapping rolling hills for coastal breezes, all in the name of ballet, of course!

Now, you know me, I'm all about a whimsical theme, so it was a no-brainer to pack my brand new "Fairy Dream" tutu for this trip. Think gossamer tulle, delicate lavender hues, and shimmering sequins, a perfect match for the magical seaside air. This is what I call fashion that truly takes flight, just like my pirouettes!

Before I even stepped off the train (which, by the way, was a lovely vintage carriage, all plush velvet and polished wood - I feel like I'm in a ballet scene!), I spotted my favourite shop, a quaint little vintage haven called "The Seagull's Nest". Inside, it was a riot of colour and wonder, filled with seashells, old books, and delicate china teacups. I just had to snag a few trinkets for my ballet room - some charming sea-horse ornaments to add a touch of coastal elegance to my ballerina's haven.

Speaking of elegant, let me tell you about the view from the cliffs! Absolutely breathtaking. White cliffs meeting the endless blue horizon, a symphony of light and shadows playing across the rugged coastline. I could have stayed there for hours, simply watching the world go by. Maybe I should add some dramatic jumps and leaps to my routine for my next performance... something bold and sweeping, just like the white cliffs!

Of course, no trip to Dover would be complete without a trip to Dover Castle! Imagine it, my darlings, a grand fortress steeped in history, with those dramatic battlements overlooking the English Channel. As I walked through those old, stone arches, I felt like I was stepping back in time. And the feeling of history really fuelled my creativity! I already have ideas for my next tutu โ€“ imagine a "Medieval Princess" tutu, made of rich burgundy and gold velvet, complete with a sweeping, embroidered train! I could almost hear the clash of swords in the distance as I envisioned it all.

The rest of my day was a delicious blend of seaside pleasures and whimsical encounters. I wandered along the pebble beach, collecting smooth stones for my ballet shoes, giggling at the playful antics of the seagulls (such delightful performers!), and indulging in a truly heavenly fish and chips (one must support local delicacies, my dear!). I even found a small seaside cafe where I sat and scribbled down all my new tutu ideas in my vintage leather journal, a beautiful, battered old thing I found at the vintage shop!

Then, as the sun started to dip towards the horizon, casting long, golden rays across the water, I stumbled upon the most wonderful little secret - a hidden meadow, just a stone's throw from the cliffs. Wildflowers in a kaleidoscope of colours painted the grassy landscape, buzzing with happy bees and fluttering butterflies. I've been inspired to incorporate more of nature into my routines, adding elements of lightness, fluidity and elegance! The dance of the butterfly, the grace of the heron on a marsh. Ballet is about expressing oneself and celebrating beauty in all its forms.

And as the stars twinkled in the evening sky, I watched the ferry lights bobbing on the water, knowing my heart felt light, happy and full. There's a special magic to the sea, my darlings, and Dover is a place that really resonated with me.

The question is: have you been bitten by the ballet bug yet? I challenge you to embrace the graceful joy of ballet! Don your favourite pink tutu, even if it's just for an evening, and let your inner ballerina shine.

See you soon for more tutu-tastic adventures,

Emma x
