Bournville Bound: Tutu Time in the Midlands!

Oh my darlings! It's Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-clad travel enthusiast, and guess where I've landed today? That's right, the heart of the Midlands - Bournville! If you're wondering, "Emma, darling, what on earth is Bournville?!" Well, it's not just the name of the chocolate company, though they did start here in the 1800s. Bournville is a charming town, all neat little Victorian houses and charming green spaces, right in the heart of the West Midlands!

My trusty little pink suitcase (and did I mention it’s custom-made, yes darling, by the fabulous 'Sew Cute' in Chesterfield?!) was crammed with my trusty collection of tutus - a bright pink feather-boa creation, a shimmering silver one for evening elegance, and my absolute favourite, a playful lavender number with tulle ruffles. Yes, Bournville, you’re in for a tutu treat!

The journey here was half the fun. The train, of course! Nothing beats a good train journey - that little bit of solitude for the creative juices to flow. Oh, and the delightful gentleman who complimented my floral-printed head scarf… He reminded me of one of the ballet students from my old class.

Speaking of class, I had to find a dance studio while I was here. I’ve heard whispered rumours of a delightful little ballet school, all chandeliers and soft lighting, just the perfect ambiance for pirouettes. They said they teach all sorts: from classic ballet to contemporary, even a little bit of hip-hop! My heart’s aflutter, just thinking about it! Maybe I'll even grab a couple of classes myself. Who knows, I might be doing the splits in a Bournville studio this afternoon!

My agenda, however, doesn’t only revolve around tutu twirls and pirouettes. This trip is all about discovering the unexpected gems this part of the UK has to offer. There's something so beautiful about venturing off the well-trodden tourist paths, you know? It’s all about those little moments of delight.

This morning, I found myself exploring the Bournville Garden Village Museum. They have the most enchanting story - how Cadbury, the chocolatier, created a beautiful model village for his workers. I've got a special penchant for Victorian houses, especially when they're built around the idyllic theme of worker's well-being. It just screams "charming history" with a touch of elegance, just like a tutu.

And speaking of elegance, did I mention the delicious smell of chocolate wafting through the air in this town? It's practically a ballet in itself, swirling in the breeze, beckoning me closer. I mean, it’s just divine, especially after my delicious morning walk through the Cadbury Park, where you can’t help but feel a sense of joy and whimsicality - much like ballet itself, right?

I even managed to squeeze in a bit of wildlife spotting at the nearby Avon Valley Nature Reserve. Now, a ballet dancer and a nature enthusiast? It may seem an unlikely combination, but honestly, you can find elegance in everything - the graceful flight of a kingfisher, the strength and fluidity of a heron, or even the soft landing of a sparrow. Everything has its own natural rhythm, and for a ballet dancer like me, spotting these tiny beauties brings so much joy.

You see, that’s what this pink tutu blog is all about: finding beauty and grace in all its forms - be it a graceful pirouette, the smell of chocolate, a little Victorian town, or the flitting of a hummingbird.

As the afternoon sunlight catches the glimmering windows of the little houses here in Bournville, I feel a renewed sense of inspiration. This trip, just like every trip, reminds me of the simple joys - a sweet cup of tea in a cozy café, a little stroll in a sun-drenched park, the delightful camaraderie of other dancers and nature enthusiasts, and yes, that twirling sensation you get when a beautifully crafted pink tutu perfectly dances around your limbs!

Remember, my darlings, life is like a ballet. Embrace every step, twirl with passion, and remember - always, always, always - wear a pink tutu. You never know what magic awaits!

And now, I'm off to discover that enchanting dance studio, so stay tuned for another pink-tutu filled update tomorrow!

Ciao for now,

Emma xx
