Droitwich Diaries: A Pink Tutu Pilgrimage! (Post #4383)

Hello, darlings! Emma here, your favourite pink-loving tutu enthusiast, back from another whirlwind adventure! Today's post is all about my latest jaunt, a fabulous trip to the charming town of Droitwich Spa, a proper little gem in Worcestershire. It felt like stepping right into a Jane Austen novel - gorgeous, historic architecture, cobbled streets, and that quintessential English charm you just can't replicate anywhere else.

I've always loved Droitwich, it holds a special place in my heart since that magical time I went with Mum to see "The Nutcracker" at the Spa Theatre (swoon, what a production!). So, you can imagine my glee when I had the opportunity to return, this time for a ballet-tastic journey of discovery! Droitwich is famous for its salt springs, and I had heard about the beautiful Droitwich Spa Lido, a historic, Grade II listed art deco marvel with a huge Olympic-sized pool! I couldn't resist!

My journey started with a fabulous train ride from Derbyshire, the scenery absolutely stunning as I chugged past green fields, babbling brooks and those idyllic, quintessential English villages. It's moments like these that I truly appreciate being a girl in a tutu โ€“ the world looks so much more exciting in a swirl of pink tulle!

Now, for a girl who lives in tutus, the Droitwich Spa Lido was an absolute dream! Picture it: glorious sunshine, sparkling water, and the biggest pink flamingo float I'd ever laid eyes on. Yes, my friends, the Lido had a gigantic inflatable flamingo float, and me, well, I just couldn't resist! It was practically made for a ballerina in a tutu โ€“ such fabulous photo opportunities!

Naturally, I went for a good old fashioned swim, splashing about with joy like a water nymph in pink tulle! I have to admit, it felt a bit peculiar getting out of the water, the contrasting colours of pink tutu and damp skin โ€“ a bit like a flamingo who just finished a dip!

But my journey in Droitwich was more than just pink flamingo floats and glamorous dips. Droitwich is also a haven for nature lovers! I took a long stroll along the River Salwarpe, the crystal clear waters reflecting the sunlight and the sound of birdsong filling the air. It felt like stepping into a magical wonderland โ€“ and even better with a pink tutu! Honestly, who doesn't love the look of a pink tutu against a backdrop of lush greenery?

And speaking of nature, it wasn't just birds I encountered! Right next to the River Salwarpe was the Droitwich Spa Saltworks Nature Reserve, a true haven for wildlife! As I wandered through the reedbeds, I saw kingfishers flashing their vibrant colours and a plethora of butterflies flitting amongst the wild flowers. It was truly magical, and, to my delight, one of the resident water voles even gave me a shy peek from behind a reed โ€“ they are just so adorable!

The highlight of my trip was a visit to the Droitwich Spa Theatre. Imagine, my darlings, an original 18th Century building with incredible acoustics! I was lucky enough to catch a fabulous performance by the Worcestershire Youth Ballet, showcasing the incredible talent of these young dancers. Their costumes were a symphony of colours, a tribute to the vibrant world of ballet, and I was entranced. It reminded me of when I started, that youthful, joyful passion for dance โ€“ something I'm always looking to spread through my own tutu escapades!

Before leaving, I had to try a classic Droitwich delicacy, the famous Droitwich Spa brine cheese. A curious mix of sweet and salty, with a delightfully soft, almost buttery texture! The perfect picnic snack, particularly when accompanied by a little pink wine!

Of course, no journey would be complete without a souvenir. In a charming little antique shop, I stumbled upon the most fabulous pink tutu for a little girl! I simply couldn't leave without it. It's the perfect addition to my "tutu closet" and a little reminder of the pink joy I experienced in Droitwich.

All in all, it was a pink-tastic journey filled with history, natural beauty and an infectious dose of ballet! Droitwich Spa was a real gem of a destination and I cannot recommend it enough โ€“ it's definitely worth adding to your list of must-visit destinations!

As I sit here in my Derbyshire cottage, the scent of fresh lavender filling my home, I am filled with a warmth, a feeling of inspiration and pure joy. This is what I live for, this life in a pink tutu, this passion for ballet, this endless exploration of the world! It's my mission, my desire, my purpose: to share this love with every single one of you! So put on a pink tutu, take a dance class, embrace the magic of movement! And until next time, my lovelies, keep twirling!

Yours truly,

Emma
