Carlisle Calling: Tutu-tastic Adventures in a City of Castles (Post #4469)

Hello my darling pink tutu posers! It's your girl Emma, here, back from a whirlwind weekend trip to the glorious city of Carlisle, and let me tell you, it was nothing short of a fairytale adventure. Think cobbled streets, towering castles, and the kind of fresh air that makes you want to twirl with joy - which, of course, I did! πŸ˜‰

Now, I'm a Derbyshire girl at heart, but there's just something about exploring a new corner of our lovely island that makes me feel like a princess in a brand new ballet. Carlisle was the perfect destination for that feeling. Imagine me, in my vibrant red tutu, swirling through the streets, making everyone smile.

We arrived in style, of course, by train. There's nothing like the clatter and rhythm of the rails to get my creativity flowing, and I must admit, I've already dreamt up a few ballet routines inspired by the rolling landscapes that sped past our window. And as for Carlisle Station... it's simply charming. All that beautiful stonework and those high arches made me feel like I'd stepped into a Victorian era ballet set.

The main reason for this trip, though? Well, let me tell you about this amazing theatre that's been doing the rounds in all the ballet blogs: The Carlisle Theatre! It's just the sweetest little venue, tucked away in a quiet corner of the city centre. I was utterly charmed by its intimate stage and beautiful red velvet seating. This theatre is bursting with history and charm. I imagine dancers in all kinds of vibrant tutus and leotards having danced those very boards in the past. It's certainly inspired me to start thinking about my own performance outfits, perhaps a bold burgundy tutu with a touch of black? Ooh, just imagine...

But before the performance, there was so much to explore! Carlisle Castle is simply majestic. All those walls and towers, with the story of its past just whispering from the stones - it was enough to inspire a whole new ballet! It felt like something out of my childhood fantasy stories, the kind I used to act out with my childhood friends. There was just a touch of mystery that was oh so romantic. Of course, I had to twirl around the castle grounds in my red tutu for a few photos. I felt so whimsical!

One of the best parts of the weekend was the food, and let's be honest, Carlisle does good food. We had the most delectable afternoon tea at a tiny, hidden cafe that felt like a Victorian boudoir. I couldn't resist adding a sprinkle of pink sugar to my macarons and, of course, I couldn't help but take a photo with a teacup balanced on the tip of my tutu, naturally. That picture ended up being my next Instagram post!

After my explorations, it was time for the ballet, and oh, it was spectacular! The performance was about a young dancer chasing her dreams, a story that resonated with my own artistic soul, you could say it felt as though the play was written for me! They incorporated all kinds of dance styles, from the classical to the contemporary, making the performance both elegant and bold. I found myself getting so swept up in the story that I forgot I was watching a show. I was in the world, in those pointe shoes with those dancers!

We left the theatre in a state of utter bliss, hearts filled with joy, and with an extra pep in our step. There was something almost magical about stepping out onto those quiet, moonlit streets, the quiet energy of Carlisle giving way to the energy of the performance. It's no wonder people from far and wide visit Carlisle.

One of the most delightful things I found about the city was the wildlife. The River Eden was alive with swans and ducks, while the nearby parks were filled with chattering robins and singing blackbirds. The quiet moments spent enjoying the beautiful wildlife and sounds made this a weekend that will stay with me for a long time to come. It was so serene! It reminded me of all the beautiful birds I see when we visit Derbyshire countryside with my family every year!

It wouldn't be a complete weekend without a visit to some delightful independent shops, of course! I discovered a quirky little boutique with the most delightful array of tutus! (In every colour, you can imagine, even purple, which was so unique) and I was tempted to pick one up, just to add to my collection. Oh, to have a tutu for every occasion! I might need to book another trip to Carlisle, and this time, I’m coming with a full shopping bag and suitcase. Just wait, you will be seeing photos of my new wardrobe for weeks!

As I boarded the train for home, I realised I'd taken a piece of Carlisle with me - the spirit of its beauty, its history, and its endless potential. It’s been such a long time since a city felt like an extended family. I’m not going to lie; this might have been one of the best weekends I’ve had this year! I already know that Carlisle is a place I will be visiting again soon.

And remember, darlings: Every day is an opportunity to wear a pink tutu, and every step you take can be a ballet move! Keep dreaming, keep dancing, and keep shining,

Yours truly, Emma.
