Braintree Bound: Tutu Travels Take a Train! 🩰💖

Hello, darlings! It’s Emma here, your favourite Derbyshire tutu-toting, ballet-loving blogger. Today I'm going on a bit of an adventure, swapping my usual countryside jaunts for a trip to the bustling town of Braintree. I know, a little unexpected, right? But hear me out, my dears, it all started with a lovely new tutu. Yes, you heard that right! A brand spanking new pink one, from a tiny shop in Buxton I'd been meaning to check out for ages. Think softest blush pink with delicate lace and sparkly detailing - I simply couldn't resist it.

Now, I have this rule about new tutus: every new one gets to take a trip with me. No point having a stunning outfit just hanging around in the wardrobe, right? So, where to go with a tutu that sings with the joy of springtime in full bloom? Well, Braintree was calling, whispering of ballet performances, vintage tea shops, and perhaps even a chance encounter with a friendly fox.

It's hard to decide, honestly, what makes me happiest: travelling, twirling, or seeing beautiful wildlife. It all melts together, my loves! But in a tutu, the magic is amplified, like a sparkling spotlight in my own personal performance. Speaking of magic, that brings me to the real reason I was heading to Braintree - a show put on by the Braintree Ballet Company! They’re famous for their interpretations of classical works, infused with a bit of contemporary flair.

Of course, no journey is complete without my trusty sidekick - my trusty little grey horse, Buttercup. I adore those journeys! The rhythmic clip-clop of his hooves on the pavement, the wind whispering through the fields, and the endless vistas unfolding like a beautiful story. Sometimes I feel like we're on stage, both of us performers in a silent dance. And let's face it, with a tutu fluttering around me, you could hardly call it silent!

The journey took me through beautiful rolling landscapes, the autumn colours already starting to set in with vibrant golds and oranges. I took a million photos for you, darling! You'll be seeing all of it in the upcoming "Pink Tutu on the Go" photo album, naturally! There were fields of wild sunflowers waving in the wind like dancers themselves, their faces painted in sunshine. I couldn't resist leaping out for a quick twirl myself. You see, even a little pink tutu isn't enough! I need those sunny skies as my stage, the wide open spaces my backdrop. It just brings everything together for me.

After an exhilarating gallop through fields of lavender and sunflowers, I took the train from the village of Great Canfield to Braintree. Now, don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore my Buttercup, but even I have to admit sometimes a train ride can be equally delightful! You get to watch the world go by from a comfy seat, with time to write in my journal, plan my ballet poses, and just dream a little bit.

And, let's be honest, the chance to catch up on my favourite books was a huge bonus. Right now, I'm absolutely hooked on this amazing ballet memoir I picked up in a charming antique bookshop the other day. This ballerina, Amelia, had the most incredible life story, travelling across continents, performing for royalty, and breaking all sorts of records.

I know what you’re thinking - “Oh, Emma, you sound so perfectly poised! But tell us the truth, how was your actual trip?!” Well, dearies, truth be told, my journey to Braintree wasn’t quite the flawless spectacle you’d see in a ballet performance. Yes, there were those moments of quiet grace, gazing at a sunset over the rolling hills with Buttercup. Yes, there was the sweet excitement of finding the perfect teapot in a charming vintage store in Braintree. But let’s just say the train journey to Braintree had more than a few… "unscheduled events."

See, the thing about Braintree is, it’s a small, lovely town with a big personality! There’s just a hint of unpredictable charm in the air, so of course, things got interesting. I somehow managed to spill my entire coffee on a gentleman reading a newspaper, right when he was engrossed in a juicy article about politics. The look on his face, darlings, it was like a stage performance in itself! He practically yelled "goodness gracious, madam!” with such comical passion, and everyone in the carriage just burst out laughing. You’d have thought a Shakespearean actor was performing in our train car!

To be honest, even the most meticulous ballet choreography can't quite prepare you for life's unplanned pirouettes! It made the entire journey even more delightful, adding a splash of delightful chaos that I simply adore! The most amazing thing was, that grumpy, political man, once I helped him clean up his newspaper, turned out to be an absolute sweetheart! He ended up giving me some advice about how to find the best local dance studio, which was absolutely lovely! Sometimes a spilled coffee can turn into the sweetest opportunity!

After settling into the town's historic centre, the highlight of the evening was the ballet. It was magnificent! It was as if the Braintree Ballet company danced straight out of a whimsical dream! And then, dear readers, this happened! After the show, during the applause, a young girl with bright eyes and a huge smile approached me. "Do you always wear pink tutus?” she asked. Now, darling, I just love this sort of spontaneous, honest question!

Of course, I just couldn’t resist pulling my tutu from my bag! She looked at it with a mix of wonder and admiration. “I’m learning ballet,” she explained, "And I’m a bit scared, because I'm not very good. "

I beamed, because you know, a chance to encourage a fellow tutu enthusiast is something I'll never miss. “Sweetie, darling, never be afraid to twirl,” I said, "Every pirouette is a performance, every pose a celebration! And even the smallest dancer, like a tiny bird soaring in the sky, can achieve magic. Just remember, ballet is a dance, but it’s also about expressing yourself!”

Her face just lit up. “I wish I had a pink tutu,” she confessed.

Now, there was nothing else I could do but say: "Go on, darling! Go to the shops and get one! And promise me you'll wear it proudly and twirl with every bit of your heart!” You’d think I'd gifted her the Hope Diamond with how bright her face got. Just seeing that sparkle in her eyes made my whole trip worth it!

Sometimes, all it takes is a simple little tutu to bring joy to others, isn't it, my dears? So that’s it for Braintree for now! I've got more of this adventure coming your way: ballet routines, new tutu purchases, and, maybe, even a cheeky peek into my secret sketchbook (with a few of Buttercup's best “portraits” of course!)

As for Braintree itself, this town has completely won my heart. Maybe it's the way its charming architecture whispers of tales long gone. Or perhaps it’s the energy in the air, buzzing with creativity and warmth. Or maybe, just maybe, it was the chance meeting with a friendly fox, watching the world go by from a bench in the park, wearing my new tutu, knowing this little pink ballet magic I carry with me was inspiring joy in even the smallest dancer.

So, stay tuned! There’s a whole lot of twirling, tea sipping, and maybe a few more unexpected encounters to come. And for now, darlings, remember this: Don't be afraid to put on your tutu, go out into the world, and dance with all your heart. We’re all performers on this grand stage, you know! 💖

Yours in twirls, Emma x
