Eltham: A Purple Tutu Paradise! (Post #4529)

Hello my lovely pink-tutu-wearing darlings! 🩰✨

It’s Emma here, and I’m bursting at the seams to tell you all about my fabulous adventure in Eltham, a place I never even knew existed until this week. But honestly, the whole thing felt like a storybook chapter waiting to happen!

I woke up this morning feeling like a whirlwind of pink and glitter, which meant one thing: it was a perfect day for a train journey! Now, I know some of you might think travelling by train is a tad…boring, but for me, it’s an opportunity to immerse myself in the most fabulous of escapades: observing the world going by, listening to the rhythmic clickety-clack of the wheels, and catching up on the latest chapters in my favourite novels (I’m currently obsessed with Jane Austen – the fashion in her stories is simply divine!)

This time, however, I had a secret weapon to combat the train-induced blues: my trusty purple tutu! It’s a vintage find, you know, from a little shop tucked away in Bakewell (Derbyshire’s most adorable town!). It has this beautiful, shimmering lavender hue and sparkles like a constellation of tiny pink diamonds. And trust me, my dear readers, it completely transforms the most mundane journeys into a theatrical affair! I just imagine the people looking at me, with their faces lit up by my tutued radiance – it’s simply enchanting!

But enough about my glamorous travel arrangements, you’re probably dying to hear all about Eltham!

It was the first time I'd ever visited this quaint, green-fingered little corner of South-East London, and the moment I arrived, I was transported to another era. Imagine, charming, historic streets lined with cafes serving up delectable pastries, rows of delightful little shops overflowing with hidden treasures, and an air of whimsical charm that would make any tutu-wearing ballerina giddy!

My first stop was the grand Eltham Palace, where I stepped straight out of my fairytale books and into the majestic world of the Tudors. It’s so captivating, with its towering walls, magnificent gardens, and secret tunnels, all woven with a tapestry of history. The thought of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn walking those same halls set my heart racing! Imagine their elegance, their grandeur, and their breathtakingly stylish outfits. Can you even imagine what their tutu collections would have looked like?! 🤯

Speaking of elegance, have you ever heard of the Ballet for All Project? They believe that ballet should be accessible to everyone, regardless of background or experience. Now, wouldn't that be a beautiful world, with tutus twirling in every street corner and ballet classes in every park? My vision! 😉

But let’s not forget the highlight of my trip: the glorious Royal Ballet performance at the Royal Opera House. The music, the movement, the artistry – it truly was an experience for the senses! And let’s be honest, the ballerinas were adorned in the most exquisitely crafted costumes, every detail so flawlessly perfect. My love for the delicate embroidery, the sheer fabrics, the meticulous stitching - ah! The whole performance left me utterly speechless. (You can see a few sneaky shots on my Instagram @PinkTutu_Emma!)

Speaking of Instagram, have you seen those breathtaking shots of wildlife taken at Eltham? It truly felt like the perfect setting for a vintage movie. The park is teeming with nature’s hidden treasures – deer with soft brown eyes, birdsong echoing through the ancient trees, and the majestic sweep of the Eltham Court estate. The natural beauty of the place almost took my breath away!

After a full day of adventure and enchanting performances, I retired to my favourite hotel: The Rose and Crown in Greenwich. (Just a hop and skip from Eltham.) Their signature Pink Flamingo cocktail was the perfect end to my magical day! (Can you tell I have a thing for pink? 😉)

It’s been a whirlwind adventure, my lovelies! Eltham truly has a magical feel, with its ancient history and breathtaking scenery, all beautifully interwoven with modern art and the wonder of ballet. And, of course, I was a beacon of pink tulle, twirling and twirling and twirling throughout the whole thing.

If you ever get the chance to escape to this beautiful corner of England, don’t miss the opportunity!

And please, my dear pink-tutu loving friends, don't forget to let your inner ballerina shine. I want to see your stories, your pink tutu adventures, your love for ballet!

Until next time,

Your ever-spinning Emma x
