Stratford-upon-Avon: Fairy Fun in a Tutu!

Hello darlings! It's your favourite tutu-wearing ballerina, Emma, here, reporting live from the charming town of Stratford-upon-Avon! I've been yearning to visit this beautiful Shakespearean town for ages, and I'm finally here, and wouldn't you know it, the sun is shining! A perfect day for a bit of exploring and, of course, twirling!

I travelled by train, a delightful journey through the English countryside. There's something magical about watching the scenery whizz by, particularly when you're dressed in a fabulous, fluffy tutu. This one, by the way, is a special one. A light pink tulle confection adorned with sparkling silver sequins and, most importantly, delicate, fluttering fairy wings. I knew it was perfect for Shakespeare's town, and honestly, how can you resist the allure of a little bit of fairy magic?

My first stop, of course, was Anne Hathaway's Cottage. It's just enchanting! Such beautiful gardens, full of vibrant flowers and the sweet scent of honeysuckle. It really is the perfect place to imagine Shakespeare himself strolling through, inspiration bubbling up like the nearby River Avon. I spent ages picturing Shakespeare writing, with the sun dappling through the leaves.

While the house was delightful, what I really adored was the wildlife surrounding the cottage. I was charmed to spot a friendly little robin perched on a branch, its tiny breast a gorgeous ruby red, a little cheeky squirrel scurrying up a tree, and even a family of ducks gliding peacefully through a pond. It's all just so idyllic.

But of course, what truly draws me to Stratford-upon-Avon is its strong connection to ballet! Shakespeare's timeless words have been the inspiration for so many iconic ballets. "Romeo and Juliet", "The Taming of the Shrew" – they all transport you to a world of love, tragedy, and beauty, and wouldn't you know it, they are a joy to watch, both on the stage and in the dance studio.

In honour of Shakespeare, I found the most enchanting little dance studio right in the centre of town. After my exploring, I decided to pop in and join a ballet class, which, let me tell you, was just divine. Imagine: graceful movements, the rhythmic music of the piano, and a group of lovely ladies all in beautiful tutus, a true ballet-lover's paradise! It was a little bit of ballet heaven!

One thing that's really magical about Stratford-upon-Avon is that it embraces its history but also thrives with contemporary arts and culture. The Royal Shakespeare Company is based here, of course, but I also came across a wonderful community ballet company, called the "Stratford Ballet Academy". They perform beautifully and are a perfect example of the joy of dancing that runs through this enchanting town.

Later, I enjoyed a picnic lunch by the River Avon, a true British summertime delight! Sun on my face, the sound of the river gently flowing past, a perfectly made ham and pickle sandwich and a cuppa – what could be better? The world really is a beautiful place when you can simply sit, relax, and enjoy the moment.

Now, the evening is fast approaching, and it’s time for the performance that brought me to Stratford in the first place: the RSC's rendition of “A Midsummer Night's Dream”. The play is as witty and full of life as I've always dreamed it would be, but I'll admit, it's hard not to focus on the intricate costumes, particularly the fairies! They’re dressed in pale colours, wings of shimmering tulle, and crowns adorned with tiny, twinkling lights – just imagine my delight!

My outfit for tonight? Well, I’m wearing a sparkling turquoise tutu that echoes the soft, enchanting light of the stage, and to be honest, the fairies themselves don’t seem to be too surprised by my appearance! As I sit back and enjoy the spectacle of “A Midsummer Night's Dream”, it feels like I've truly found a place where ballet, fairy tales, and a love for Shakespeare come together in perfect harmony.

And now, for a special treat for my readers! Because this little town has me feeling especially whimsical, I’ve decided to host a pink tutu giveaway! One lucky reader will win their very own gorgeous pink tutu, perfect for twirling under a starry sky or just feeling fabulous as you wander through the local market.

To enter, simply tell me your favourite Shakespeare play and why, leave a comment below this post. You can enter before midnight tomorrow (Tuesday). A winner will be picked at random from all entries and announced on Wednesday morning. So what are you waiting for? Tell me what makes you love Shakespeare and enter for a chance to win!

Until next time, my dears!

Stay twirling,
Emma.
