High Wycombe High Kicks!

Post 4944

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, back from another fabulous adventure! Today's post is a little different – I'm going to take you with me to High Wycombe, a delightful little town in Buckinghamshire that's nestled amidst charming countryside. Why did I choose this little corner of the UK, you ask? Because, my lovelies, it's home to the magnificent Wycombe Swan theatre!

This week, the Swan's hosting a dazzling production of "The Nutcracker," and I simply had to see it. Oh, I am so incredibly lucky to be living in a country that boasts so much brilliant dance talent, it’s enough to make any tutu-lover swoon! So, armed with my trusty travel guide, a giant, perfectly pink rucksack and my black, full-length tutu, I hopped aboard the train to embark on a quintessential British adventure.

The journey was just as beautiful as the destination. Looking out the train window at the rolling green hills dotted with quaint villages felt like a scene from a Jane Austen novel! I almost expected a dashing gentleman in a top hat to hop on the train and start wooing me with Shakespearean sonnets, but I was the only one in my carriage so my fellow travelers, thankfully, got away without being bombarded by a barrage of Hamlet quotes from me.

Arriving in High Wycombe, I was struck by its charming atmosphere. Quaint, independent shops filled with local crafts and treasures, delightful cafes spilling onto the cobblestone streets and a friendly atmosphere filled with smiles and chit-chat made me feel right at home. My journey continued with a lovely afternoon tea with my good friend Lucy, who you'll recall from a previous blog post - she's my confidante when it comes to everything from finding the perfect shade of pink for my nail varnish to debating the merits of the chassé versus the grand jeté. We giggled about the upcoming show, about life in general, and admired each other's fabulous tutus. Yes, Lucy also wore hers! I swear, sometimes, my lovelies, I'm the only one who can't resist the call of the pink tutu!

Of course, my true reason for visiting was the theatre! And oh, my dears, what a theatre it was! It was just breathtaking - red velvet seating, exquisite chandeliers that dripped with shimmering crystal, and a stage waiting to be illuminated by the magic of dance. I felt so elegant and glamorous as I settled into my plush seat with my program, a small, pink heart pulsating in my chest as I anticipated the show.

And, oh my goodness! The production was truly spectacular. From the moment the curtain rose and the music started, I was transported into a winter wonderland, full of twinkling snow, playful sprites, and mischievous mice. I sat captivated by the delicate grace of the ballerinas, the athletic strength of the danseur nobles, and the joyous, whimsical atmosphere created by the enchanting score.

Afterwards, as I made my way out into the bustling streets, I couldn't help but smile. High Wycombe was an experience, one that filled me with so much joy, it practically felt like I was pirouetting on air. My trip had reinforced what I already knew - a dose of art and beauty, sprinkled with a generous portion of girly fun, is just what the doctor ordered!

As for my mission to spread the tutu love and the dance magic, I’m still going strong. I'm starting to feel like my campaign is starting to catch on, my dears. You only need to scroll down to the comments of my blog to see evidence of the tutus spreading! My neighbour is now making pink-themed snacks to sell in her market stall, I have heard whispers of my pink tutu story travelling across the county and last week, one of the kids on my street even attempted a fouetté. Don't tell anyone, but it was adorable!

And that's it, my darlings! Today was full of beauty, inspiration, and more tutu fun than I can handle. I encourage all of you to find the ballet show nearest to you and head on out to experience the magic for yourselves. You can even wear a pink tutu. Just a thought… ;)

Remember, ladies, it's never too late to embrace your inner ballerina, no matter your age or skill level. Dance your way through life, twirl through every challenge, and always keep that pink tutu spirit shining bright.

Until next time,

Emma xoxo
