North Shields: A Whirlwind of Pink & Pancakes

Post 5103

Hello my darlings! It's your favourite tutu-clad blogger, Emma, back with another exciting adventure. This time, I've traded the Derbyshire hills for the seaside breeze of North Shields, a vibrant little town brimming with character (and, luckily, an abundance of places to wear my pancake tutu!).

You know I adore travelling by train, and this journey was no exception. There's just something magical about watching the scenery rush by, especially when it's a picturesque view like this one. I spotted a herd of cows grazing peacefully, and their placid expression made me smile. I believe all animals radiate inner peace and a quiet joy – just like a ballet dancer after a great class, haha!

Arriving in North Shields felt like stepping into a quaint little seaside postcard. It was warm and sunny, and the air smelled of salt and freedom. I made my way straight to the beautiful Victorian arcade – the colours were simply divine, just like my own pancake tutu, a symphony of soft pink hues with delicate floral accents!

I must admit, I felt a little hesitant about rocking my pancake tutu on this particular day. You see, North Shields was playing host to the most enormous sea shanty festival! Now, I'm a firm believer that life is about trying new things and embracing adventure, but my delicate tutu fabric seemed somewhat vulnerable in the midst of all that robust maritime merriment! But you know me, always the brave one. Besides, my motto is "Tutus for all occasions!", and I wouldn't let a bit of salty sea air stop me.

The shanty festival was exhilarating! I've never seen so much hearty singing and dancing in my life. The sheer enthusiasm of the crowd was contagious – they had me clapping along and twirling my pink tutu in delight. And even though they were singing a little bit louder than my usual balletic music, the energy was undeniable. I caught the eye of one burly sailor sporting a very fine handlebar moustache, and he actually winked at me. He's clearly a fan of tutus, too! I bet he has a soft heart hidden beneath all that sailorly gruffness.

Of course, no seaside adventure is complete without a proper dose of fish and chips, so I treated myself to a plate of crispy golden delights – they tasted like summer itself. I found a cosy little spot overlooking the pier and let the salty air wash over me while I enjoyed my treat. I know you're thinking, "Emma, can't you wear your tutu with fish and chips?" Well, my dears, it might look good, but that's a sticky situation best left to the imagination. But do indulge me!

Later, I strolled through the charming old town, where colourful cottages nestled along the harbour, each one whispering its own unique story. I picked up a couple of exquisite shell trinkets as souvenirs for my apartment, my mind already sketching them into a whimsical, shell-inspired tutu design! You'll just have to wait and see what my artistic inspiration cooks up for you next!

The highlight of my day had to be my encounter with the North Shields ballet school. Yes, darling, you read that correctly - a ballet school by the seaside! The school itself is a lovely little cottage with a whimsical ballet studio hidden inside. As I watched the young dancers practice, I was reminded of my own childhood days spent twirling and leaping in our Derbyshire studio. Ballet truly transcends space and time, connecting us through the grace and elegance of movement.

Now, let me tell you, these little North Shields ballerinas were absolutely phenomenal. Their pirouettes were graceful and precise, their jumps were high and powerful, and their smiles were wide and bright. These youngsters are clearly the future of ballet, and I'm thrilled that this charming seaside town nurtures such young talent. They deserve all the encouragement in the world, so, darlings, if you find yourselves in North Shields, why not head over to this school and give them a big cheer? You know how I feel about ballet - "A passion for life and grace, one pirouette at a time!" It doesn't matter where you are in the world!

As the sun dipped down below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of pink and orange, I felt a pang of nostalgia. It was time to bid farewell to this beautiful seaside town. I promised myself I'd return soon, maybe even try my luck with a spot of horseback riding along the beach – the ultimate balletic, yet equestrian adventure. I always have an appetite for the next thrill.

Before boarding my train back to Derbyshire, I found the perfect pink-themed souvenir to take home – a dainty porcelain shell shaped like a tutu! The detail is impeccable - a perfect symbol of my own adventures in North Shields. This little reminder of my journey will adorn my desk, constantly inspiring me to seek out the next adventure. And of course, it’s an absolute reminder to spread the word: embrace the joy, twirl your tutu and remember, anything is possible!

Keep it pink and pirouette on!

Emma xoxo
