Southampton: Tutu-tastic Times! (Post #5164)

Hey darlings!

It's Emma here, back from a whirlwind trip to the lovely coastal city of Southampton, where I felt like I was living in a real-life fairytale.

This is post number 5164, and for the past five-and-a-half years I've been chronicling my ballet adventures on www.pink-tutu.com. My journey to share the love of ballet with the world hasn't always been smooth, but there are those truly magical moments that make the long hours of practice, the train journeys, the late-night costume changes and the countless shows all worthwhile!

This weekend was definitely one of those.

I've been a huge fan of the Royal Ballet for years, so you can imagine my excitement when I landed in Southampton and spotted the Theatre Royal in all its majestic glory. There was a huge poster outside with a beautiful ballerina in a dreamy lilac tutu – what could be more fitting for this pink tutu-loving ballerina?! I immediately had to see a show.

Travel in Style

I must confess, the journey was an experience in itself. I couldn't possibly get myself there by boring old car or plane! I'd booked a train journey from my lovely Derbyshire home. I love watching the scenery flash by, especially when you see those adorable fluffy lambs. And then, when I finally boarded the train, the conductor noticed my adorable floral pink suitcase (and, of course, my pink tutu!) and smiled! This journey already felt like it was starting with a magical touch.

Finding a Piece of Paradise

Once I arrived in Southampton, I wandered around the picturesque harbor. The smell of the salty air made me want to twirl around! I took loads of photos by the seafront and let myself be enchanted by the bright blue skies and the cute little boats bobbing along the water. But, of course, no trip to Southampton is complete without exploring the New Forest.

Have you seen the amazing horses that live there?! They roam freely and, as much as I love tutus, I was absolutely mesmerized by their beauty. I got lost for hours, but in a very good way. Just watching these magnificent animals in their natural environment is pure magic! You can't beat the sound of horses galloping across fields!

An Evening of Enchantment

Then came the night I had been eagerly awaiting - my first visit to the Theatre Royal. My anticipation had reached fever pitch! The entire experience was truly enchanting, and I got goosebumps during the opening dance sequence, where the main ballerina performed an extraordinary, ethereal routine that seemed to float above the stage!

What I love about ballet is how you can lose yourself in the emotions. It’s so wonderfully dramatic! The entire atmosphere in the theatre was magical – I even spotted a few ladies rocking tutus (okay, not quite pink, but they were still brilliant!). I saw families and couples completely immersed in the ballet – this is what it’s all about, spreading the love!

The Magic of Tutus

Speaking of tutus... as the finale of the performance began, I was in tears of joy – a genuine happy cry, I promise! I'd caught a glimpse of the principal ballerina changing in the wings before the grand finale. She had chosen a dramatic red tutu with stunning sequin detailing that glittered under the spotlight! It just added another layer to the excitement and magic! And just like that, the entire audience erupted into applause, a symphony of cheers that just seemed to wash over us all.

My Personal Mission: Make Everyone Love Ballet!

To be honest, I wish everyone had that kind of experience at least once! Maybe then they would understand how much it means to me! My goal is to spread the magic of ballet, even to those who never thought they’d enjoy it! Maybe I should write to the royal family and convince the Queen to take ballet classes?! Who knows, perhaps a few lessons and a cute pink tutu might convince the Queen!

Let’s be real, even though I might look pretty fabulous in my tutus, I am far from a ballerina in a classic sense! I simply love the elegance, the energy, the passion, and the story within every dance – it's pure magic, folks! I can see why my dream to share this with the world may seem slightly bonkers, but when you experience something this incredible, it’s infectious!

Join me at the next Ballet Bonanza!

Keep an eye out on www.pink-tutu.com – my next adventure starts on Friday! You won’t believe where I'm heading…

Until then,

Embrace your inner ballerina! Wear a pink tutu (or at least a sprinkle of pink)!

Stay fabulous,

Emma

xx
